Olson English Academy is an English emersion school.
We educate Preschool through middle school kids using American curriculum.
(Kindergarten is doing first grade work, Elementary and middle school kids are doing first through third grade Language Art presently.)
Working hours may be 10:30 to 6:30 or 9:30 to 5:30 (two different shifts.)
10:30-11:45 class
11:45-12:45 lunch & recess
12:45-1:00 story time
1:00-1:45 class
2:00 preschool dismiss
2:00-2:40 prep time
2:40-3:50 class
4:00-5:10 class
5:20-6:30 class
No working on weekends and no split shifts.
We have three American teachers.
The Academy is located in Jinhae; a beautiful, fast growing city on the southern coastline not too far from the American Navy base. It is 40 minutes away from Busan and only a tunnel away from Changwon city, which is the capital of the Kyungnahm province.
We don`t have any Korean teachers teaching class, but have a Korean assistant in the office who can help you when you need help. We also have a cook who prepares lunch for the school.
You will be given classes you are responsible for throughout your entire stay and conduct each class like you would in American school. Each pre/kinder class has seven to ten students and after-school classes have five to ten in each..
I am a Korean American and have been running the school for longer than six years. We`ve been growing steadily over those years. We are still small but well established and have an outstanding reputation in the region.
Single housing will be provided, your transportation cost will be reimbursed - airfare will be provided if you are outside the country, and there will be a severance pay upon the completion of your contract. I pay 50% of pension and health care according to the law. The apartment and the school are both air-conditioned and within walking distance.

Jinhae is surrounded by mountains and an ocean. There is a road to drive and a path to rollerblade or walk along the coastline. You can get on a ferry boat to famous Gujae island with nice beaches from here.
The city is quite different than it used to be. It is no longer a farm community with just navy installations. Ever since Anmin tunnel that connects Jinhae and Changwon was built, the population has been growing rapidly, and building the new international harbor speeded the growth even more. Due to the growth of the population, so many apartment buildings have been constructed and some more fancy ones are on the way. Consequently, big chain stores have come in too. We have Lotte Mart, Home Plus, and Hi Mart. We also have Mc Donald, Dunkin Doughnuts, and Baskin Robins. Changwon is only a tunnel away. Jinhae is practically an extension of Changwon city where you have all kinds of American restaurants and big stores and fun places to go to.
We are also so close to Japan that you can get there on a ferry boat and tour Japan at a very low cost. You can easily visit many other neat famous parts of Korea from here too such as Gyungjoo and Mt. Socklee. There is also an American navy base which is 10 minutes away from the school. If you like, you could attend church on base, in which case they may sponsor you to get a pass that allows you to come on base as you will. We have on base a weight room, exercise room, racquet ball court, swimming pool, gym, bowling alley, tennis court, and movie theatre as well as restaurants. Everything is free except for swimming and bowling. Swimming cost $2.00 and bowling shoes cost $2.00 to rent and $1.00 per game. Restaurants on base, you may use freely with a pass, but other facilities, you must be accompanied by a base ID holder to use such as me.
