Thessaloniki Metro Project, Northern Greece.
Thessaloniki is Greece's second largest city and the centre, both touristic and industrial, of Northern Greece situated on the idyllic Adriatic coast.
We are inviting preliminary applications from suitably qualified individuals from a consultant engineering background with a view to start in early 2007 for a duration of 5 years for this 800 million Euro project to extend / build the underground 9.4km, Thessaloniki Metro Line with 14 stations spread along the harbour bay.
Head of Design Team (Civil Works) – Thessaloniki, Greece

A Civil Engineer, head of the design team of the Civil Works, official representative of the Contractor before AM and Coordinator of the Consultant's Team.
A Civil Engineer with an absolute minimum of 20 years experience. In terms of structural engineering, broad experience in designs of underground works, such as Metro stations, tunnels, shafts etc., with cut-and-cover method, open cut, underground excavation by conventional means (NATM), diaphragm walls, tunnel boring with tunnel boring machines (T8M-EPB), retaining works, piling works, water proofing works etc. with special emphasis on issues of construct-ability, financial design and protection of buildings and infrastructures. This experience must cover all the works concerning stations, tunnels and shafts, as well as interconnections with railway and E/M systems.
The scope of works of the Head of category includes the review of the designs, ensuring the specifications of the Civil Works, the preparation of designs and reports etc. Regarding the metro extension works, he will have an advisory role on technical issues, depending on AM's needs.
The Team Coordinator shall, also, have knowledge of the main systems used in the AM Metro lines or of associated systems, of the safety requirements for the Metro designs, according to international standards and shall have a basic knowledge of the Metro operations.

A Civil Engineer with an absolute minimum of 12 years broad experience in the structural designs of underground projects, such as Metro stations, tunnels, shafts etc., with cut-and-cover method, open cut, underground excavation by conventional means (NATM), diaphragm walls, tunnel boring with tunnel boring machines (T8M-EPB), retaining works, piling works, water proofing works etc. with special emphasis on issues of construct-ability, financial design and protection of buildings and infrastructures.
This will be an advisory role relating to technical issues related to design review and compliance with specifications, design preparation for new extensions, compilation of new specifications and tender documents.
