Job Summary
Provide skilled respiratory care to patients in critical and non-critical care settings.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Administers a wide variety of therapeutic services to various patient types (geriatric/adult/pediatric/infant/neonatal), i.E. Oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medication administration, secretions clearance, lung expansion basic and advanced airway management techniques (oral/nasopharyngeal airways, intubation) emergent and non-emergent non-invasive ventilation, invasive ventilation, high frequency ventilation, transport of mechanically ventilated patients, specialty gas administration (Heliox and nitric oxide).
Administer a wide variety of diagnostic services to various patient types (geriatric/adult/pediatric/infant/neonatal), i.E. Bedside spirometry, pulse oximetry, nocturnal oximetry studies, blood gas sampling and analysis.
Performs assessments and re-assessments of their patient history (chest x-rays, vital signs, blood gases, progress notes, etc.) in order to determine appropriate therapy modalities/frequencies/care plans.
Participates as a member of the Code Blue team, obtaining appropriate advanced life support credentials as defined in hospital policy.
Prepares a list of patients due for therapy.
Follows departmental equipment disinfection procedures.
Documents all pertinent data in the patients medical record and hospital information system following completion of any service.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of all departmental forms, flow charts, logbooks and their proper usage.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
Treats patients and their patient care to ensure patients needs are met and that hospital policy is followed.
Attends education in-service programs to maintain professional competency. Obtains appropriate hospital-specific education and training. Assists shift personnel in completion of activities in other care areas.
Participates in departmental performance improvement projects.
Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job, as assigned by the immediate supervisor. |
| Skills Required: |
Education And Licensure:
US/UK/Australian Qualified. Graduate from Home Country Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
Must obtain licensure from the Ministry of Health
\Professional Experience:
A minimum of 3 years post graduate experience as a respiratory therapist carrying for adult, pediatric and infant patient populations.
Minimum of 1-year experience in adult/pediatric/neonatal Critical Care Units.
Specialized Knowledge:
BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP desired.
Computer literacy
Physical Effort Required:
With assistance, lift, moves and/or transfers patients.
Fine motor skills required to push/pull with hands (disconnecting tubing).
Performs postural drainage cupping fro an average of 10 minutes 2-10 times per day;
In pediatrics up to 45 minutes 2-10 times per shfit.
Repetitive motion required: elbow flexion extensions frequently (postural drainage and chest percussion.)
Requires definite skilled, accurate manual dexterity, and adeptness to utilize a variety of specialized equipment.
Must be able to operate a computer keyboard.
May use bilateral power grip when bagging patient for an average of 30-45 minutes.
Must be able to assume hand and knee positions to administer CPR.
Must be able to see in order to read and write, provide patient care, and assess sufficient to hear physiological functions in patients, normal conversation and equipment alarms set at usually normal levels.
May utilize a telephone up to 1 hour per day.
