| Job Description: |
The Automotive R&D Chemist is responsible for managing R&D projects which are primarily aimed at the development and commercialization of new products and technologies for the automotive market segment. He/she develops new products and technologies for the automotive segment of the U.S. business as well as the worldwide business, as applicable. He/she also supports the introduction of new products to customers and supports the manufacture of these products.
• Takes responsibility for R&D development projects including formulation, powder preparation, spraying, testing, and evaluation of powder coatings to meet specific project requirements.
• This position has a multi-disciplinary dimension based on vast coatings experience
• Demonstrated strong technical leadership
• Skilled at formulation and manipulation of standard powder coatings technologies and product platforms.
• Skilled at the development and implementation of new and novel powder coating technologies.
• Visits to customer facilities to supervise trial runs of new products, trouble-shoot products on line, and to make formal presentations to customers.
• Visits to production facilities to support and troubleshoot the manufacture of products.
• Meetings with Suppliers to support project development.
• Implementation of Akzo Nobel technologies for use in U.S. products.
• Effective technical interchange with other Akzo Nobel technical employees in other worldwide laboratories, including the Akzo Nobel Automotive COE teams around the world.
• Promotes health, safety, and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.
• Promotes the quality system through adhering to the elements and the philosophy of the quality statement, quality manual, and procedures.
• Maintains a clean and orderly workplace through 5S discipline.
• Promotes the quality system through adhering to the elements of and being familiar with the philosophy, quality statement, quality manual, and procedures.
• Promotes health, safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.
• Performs other duties as required for the success of Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc. |
| Skills Required: |
• B.S. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
• Must have worked in a lab for a minimum of 5 years and have a very good understanding of powder coatings chemistries and raw materials, powder application, and powder manufacturing.
• Must have a good understanding of the US (preferably global) powder coatings market. In particular, must have an excellent knowledge of the Automotive market sector.
• Must have the ability to effectively organize and execute technical programs with a potentially high degree of complexity or unknowns to a successful conclusion.
• Must have very good oral and written communication skills and must be able to effectively present information to colleagues, customers, and suppliers. This includes formal presentations.
• Must be computer literate in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Microsoft Project.
• Must have the ability to complete request in a timely manner
• Ability to take technical request and translate to technical projects. |
