Unix/Solaris Systems Specialist
Summary of Requirements
This Gibraltar-based Gaming Company is looking for a Unix/Solaris Systems Specialist to join its expanding IT Operations Team. The successful candidate will have a high technical ability, SAN administration experience and a sound understanding of recent versions of Solaris and Linux, including a strong ability to use Unix tools and scripting to automate tasks. The role will involve architecture, development and roll-out of critical business systems, analyzing current infrastructure and processes and proposing new and innovative scalable solutions to increase reliability, throughput and ultimately revenue. The successful candidate will also be required to technically lead and mentor a team of Systems Administrators. Previous experience supporting Oracle and Tomcat are desirable.
Essential Requirements
• Specific technical skills
o Well-rounded understanding of all aspects of Solaris (e.g., patching, performance tuning, logging, monitoring, building, configuration, automation)
o Can handle server hardware in a data centre environment
o Ability to troubleshoot systems level problems - work closely with developers, partners, suppliers, and vendors. Technically lead the recovery from a production system downtime event
o Absolute must: have a clear and strong ability to use Unix tools and scripting to automate tasks. This includes a background of writing significant scripts in languages like shell or Perl.
o Specific application knowledge
Absolute must: Unix based web site/services delivery stack
Relational databases (as a black box set of processes, not as a DBA) (e.g., Oracle)
Java application container (e.g., Tomcat)
Web server (e.g., Apache)
For all of these applications, will have strong knowledge of:
• Process tuning
• Log file handling
• Configuration
• Code and content deployment, release planning
o General understanding of clustering, clustered file systems, and shared storage arrays
o Proactive systems management
Set up and evolution of monitoring and alert tools, trend analysis tools
Configuration management
Understanding monitoring, alert, and trending tools
Champion when systems improvements need to be made to further stability, mitigate risks, or proactively address potential performance constraints
