This position is for a leadership role in the assessment, evaluation and selection of rolling element bearings, seals and other interacting surfaces in aerospace assemblies including generators, gearboxes, pumps, actuators and turbo-machinery. It requires excellent communication skills for interfacing with customers and suppliers as well as with Bearing Engineers in other company divisions.
The candidate will be responsible for delivering high quality technical work and ensuring excellent and proactive communication and teamwork.
Responsibilities include:
•Review designs for service and wear limits and document them on engineering drawings.
•Communicate periodic progress of design, build and test activities to the assigned Integrated Product Team.
•Identify potential risk items and possible mitigation actions and submit them to the Integrated Product Team.
•Identify and report use of Materials of Concern.
•Consult lessons learned, design checklists and business unit historical references to determine the benefits and risks of design configurations.
•Support the investigation, analysis and corrective action for production issues and field returns.
•Support applicable customer, partner and other lab and flight test activities.
•Design components to meet the product design-to-cost targets.
•Support Procurement in bringing new suppliers on board for applicable parts and equipment.
•Provide technical leadership and direction and serve as a technical resource to others.
•Foster development of creativity and technical excellence in others.
Education:
An MS/PhD in tribology, mechanical or aerospace engineering or related discipline is required.
Experience/Qualifications:
•MS Degree and 10+ years of related work experience in the area of tribology.
•Technical breadth and ability to relate transient analysis and the A.B. Jones’ code for bearing analysis to tribology projects.
•Capable of determining when further analyses utilizing Finite Element Analysis for stress, strain, heat transfer, or dynamics are required.
•Record of technical achievements, including awarded patents, special awards, and technical publications in industry journals.
•Familiarity with various numerical techniques.
•High-level of understanding of interacting surfaces and dynamics.
•Ability to see the inter-dependencies between many variables and parameters
