I am the current foreign teacher at the E. Bo Young Talking Club in Waegwan, Gyeonsongbukdo. Our school is now starting to look for a replacement for me when I leave in early June. The school employs 3 Korean teachers and one foreign teacher. The bosses are very nice and I’ve never had problems with them. Also, they both speak English well and communication is never a big issue.
Waegwan is 20 minutes west of Daegu by train. There is a US military base here, so there are some western things around – some restaurants & bars.
One of the best things about this job is that you can make a good amount of money by working overtime. The base salary is 2.0 million for 120 hours (classes) per month. Any extra hours are paid at 20,000 or 25,000 per hour depending on the class. There is always lots of overtime available and you can make around 3.0 million per month. Also, it’s cheap to live in this town, so you can definitely save a lot of money.
It’s kind of expected that you will want to work some overtime, so please don’t apply if you’re not willing to work some extra hours.
The details:
2.0 million base salary (with overtime it can be 3.0+)
120 hours (classes) per month (more if you take the OT)
50% Pension and health insurance paid by employer (national health insurance plan)
Tax is about 1.7%
Severance pay of 1 month salary after completion of 1 year contract

2 bedroom apartment (kitchen/dining room, small living room, 2 br, 1 ba). It’s about a 10 minute walk to the school. (You do have to pay the apartment fee for maintenance and utilities – it’s about 100K-240K per month depending on the season.)
Schedule is generally 2:40-9:50 (M-Th) sometimes with a 1 hour break, or not if you take more overtime. Friday is 2:40-6:45. Optional Saturday classes.
