The Asia Pacific region represents a fast growing market for the company, specifically Greater China, Japan and Korea being the dominant key areas. In keeping with its strategic goals, the company has decided to appoint a experienced professional and technically competent individual in the role of Regional Technical Applications Engineer.
The Position
Reporting to the Director, Product & Applications Development, the candidate will work with existing and prospective Asian customers to evaluate, screen and develop new opportunities.
He/She will establish strong technical relationship with those selected customers and their converters to facilitate entry of products into market. Through building detailed project plans and driving technical processes, the candidate will play a key role for the company/BU to meet its business plan.
Essential Functions in the position.
A. Project Management. Establish project plans and follow up on communication, logistics, coordinate and prepare execution of agreed actions. Recommend corrective actions, use milestones where possible.
B. Logistic Support: Help marketing with the lot selection of product for customers. Give input into production scheduling and making sure product is shipped to customers and delivered on time.
C. Application Development: Identify technology needs, establish and execute plans to develop technology with internal and external resources.
The Ideal Person
The candidate will be technically competent and comfortable in a technical support and service role. Interacting with customers in the different countries in Asia, the candidate will be a one stop resource for information about the company’s products and applications.
A good problem solver, the candidate must be able to help the customers with their operational and technical issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
The candidate should be a hands-on person, where necessary, in an effort to assist the customer with their manufacturing and other issues as it concerns the company’s products and applications.
The candidate would have spent a minimum of 5 years in the plastics industry and possess a good knowledge of conversion technology, including sheet or film extrusion, thermoforming, injection moulding.
Additional experience in extrusion blow moulding, ISBM, calendaring or downstream conversion is a plus.
Frequent travelling in the Asian region, about 50%, is required. Additionally the candidate may have to work out of a home office and consequently should be someone who is able to work independently with little supervision.
Key skills will include:
• Good knowledge/skills of thermoforming, extrusion, injection molding and blow molding process is necessary. Skill in other conversion technologies is an important plus.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
• Higher than average oral / written communication and leadership skills. Must be proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet navigation.
• Frequent interaction with most internal functions : R&D, production, QC, sales and marketing.
• Ability to work on various high priority projects simultaneously. A high degree of self-sufficiency is indispensable.
• Good market knowledge to involve key players and identify bottle-necks in the down stream chain to end-users.
• Knowledge of various analytical techniques and the ability to understand analytical data: i.E. DSC, TGA, GPC, DMA, DMS, MFI, etc.
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively in a foreign environment.
• Ability to effectively evaluate and report EH&S issues of customers and converters.
