Position Summary: This is a new position created to provide education and outreach in PTMSCs new Plastics Education Program. It is a half-time salaried position with potential expansion to full-time hours in the first or second year.
Responsibilities:
Use PTMSC materials, partners materials and independent research, to become familiar with the issues associated with plastic debris in the marine environment.
Adapt the curriculum PTMSC is currently using and assemble it into an educational outreach package for export to Puget Sound areas schools.
Coordinate with schools to set up educational visits.
Travel to schools to present programming.
Develop and present interpretive programs for the public on the topic of Plastics in the Marine Environment.
Coordinate and maintain communication with partner groups around the Sound conducting our beach sampling protocol.
Analyze plastic samples that volunteers are collecting and post data to PTMSCs website.
Develop an outline of content for a traveling exhibit.
Coordinate with sites to host the traveling exhibit and develop its schedule.
Lead plastics education programs at PTMSC summer camps and other venues as needed.
Perform other duties as required by the position.

Skills Required:: |
Qualifications/Requirements:
A degree in Environmental Education, Education, Marine Biology or related field
At least 2 years experience with informal education and familiarity with current state education standards
Experience working with volunteers
Experience with field sampling and using protocols
Familiarity with Puget Sound or Pacific Coast marine flora and fauna
Energetic, self motivated and well organized with good time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent written/verbal communication skills
Basic computer knowledge and skill
Reliable transportation for use in reimbursed travel to Puget Sound schools and sampling sites
The ideal candidate will have a passion for preserving our marine environment, through education, conservation and stewardship.
