Job Title: Move Up/Adult Education Instructor
Employment Status: full-time
Organization Description:
Seamaac is a Philadelphia-based organization, founded in 1984, to help to bring immigrant/refugee interests and issues to the collective agendas of refugee resettlement, social service, employment and job training, health, educational and cultural agencies. SEAMAAC currently provides a variety of services in the areas of education, health and advocacy to refugees and immigrants in the Greater Philadelphia area.
Program Description:
Move Up is a collaboration between the Pennsylvanias Department of Welfare, Department of Education, and Philadelphia Educational and Social Service Agencies, to provide intensive job preparedness, training and general educational services to help TANF clients move to self sufficiency.
Primary Function(s):
Instruct, administer, and manage intensive adult education classes - ESL, and Computer classes.
DUTIES, Responsibilities And Expectations:
Assess individual learner achievement through formal, BEST test, and informal evaluations.
Maintain student records for intake, exit, pre & post testing, goal setting and class placement.
Prepare and maintain daily class lesson plans.
Develop and submit a monthly class syllabus.
Maintain and report accurate attendance records, goals and follow-up on all students.
Assist with the development and implementation of program curriculum.
Work to enhance and grow program and increase student enrollment.
Attend and participate in program staff meetings.
Prepare and submit monthly report on status of class and students.
Attend at least two staff development workshops each year, sponsored either by Seamaac, Mcol or an outside agency.
Assist with special projects and events as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
College degree in related field with 1-3 years of experience in adult education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to teach all aspects of ESL, and Computer Literacy.
Experience instructing intensive adult education classes.
Experience working with SPOC/TANF clients Preferred.
Experience working in a PDE-ABLE funded agency Preferred.
Experience working with one of the PDE Bureau-funded WERC initiatives a plus.
Excellent computer, organizational and people skills are essential.
Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
Sensitivity to the needs of adult learners and their children.
Ability to travel to other sites throughout the Philadelphia area, including some out of town travel and overnight stays.
Flexible schedule needed, some nights and occasional weekends required.
Salary Range: $27,000 to $30,000, commensurate with experience
BENEFITS: Full health and dental benefits, 12 paid vacation days, 8 paid holidays, and 12 paid sick days.
