Position Title: Amos Database Administrator
Manager’s Title: Superintendent Amos
Basic Purpose: (in one short paragraph, write an overall summary of the position’s purpose (the reason the job exists). Be sure to describe the position’s major expected end results.)
Modify and maintain Amos database to resolve performance and capacity issues. Develop, implement, and monitor Amos supporting applications and database content. Manage overall maintenance and administration of Amos database system.
Position Responsibilities: (list (in order of relevant importance) a series of brief statements which describe the position’s major functions and end results. For each activity, briefly state what is done, how the activity is accomplished and why the activity is performed. List normally contains 6-8 major ongoing responsibilities.)
Provide ongoing managing support for the AMOS database system (Administration Maintenance Operations Spares).
Develop and maintain PL/SQL functions, procedures, and packages.
Establish shoreside to shipside database exports. Monitor automated process to keep it running; repair errors when necessary.
Generate ad hoc reports for internal customers from database using SQL. Maintain currently deployed reports created using PowerBuilder and SQL. Create new Amos reports using Amos and PowerBuilder.
Assist Amos team members with database imports, updates and deletes. Handle content management of database with assistance of ship based team members.
Assist with content management of Amos/Oracle database to improve quality and uniformity data.
Monitor and update permissions and security settings for Amos application end users.
Maintain administration, maintenance, and development of several Amos support applications used for guarantee claims, registration of stock items and interfaces with other company systems.
Perform other job related functions as assigned.

Approximately 13 systems under supervision (1 for each ship + office + new building) Application has approximately 300 users onboard and in the office.
Nature And Scope: (briefly describe a few of the problems/ challenges most frequently encountered in performing this position’s responsibilities. Indicate the limits and controls on this position’s authority regarding the performance of daily activities. Give examples of problems and actions typically referred to this position for resolution and/or approval. Challenges: Handle data errors swiftly, such as during shipside data replication imports. Configure/modify/manage Oracle i.E., tuning, replication, backup, etc. Major contacts include Marine department ship and shore, IT department and Ship System Managers.
Knowledge And Experience: (degree required or equivalent experience. Functional area of expertise for required degree (i.E., Marketing, Business Administration, Computer Science, Hotel Management, etc.). Years of experience required. Nature of experience required (i.E., technical skills, Supervisory/ management experience, interpersonal skills, communication skills). Other specialized skills.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in MIS or related field of study; and/or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Experience: 3+ Years of experience with SQL and relational databases, specifically Oracle. Some application development experience required. AMOS and PowerBuilder experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills: Familiarity with a relational database required, such as Oracle. Ability to repair data errors and configure, modify and manage Oracle. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to maintain ongoing knowledge of industry standards, trends, best practices, equipment and vessel implementation. Ability to maintain ongoing knowledge of database ideas, concepts, database management, and technical products/services in the shipping industry. Interpersonal communication skills to confer with other staff members in order to coordinate departmental efforts to maintain support of policies and procedures. Ability to travel to ships 1 to 2 times a year to conduct end-user training in Amos or for new build set-up. Knowledge of marine/cruise industry preferred.
