| Job Description: |
Technical Tasks:
QC and edit acoustic logs for Geophysical use.
Apply petrophysical (depth matching & environmental) corrections to acoustic logs as and when required.
Retrieve and store logs from BSP databases.
Perform acoustic rock property analysis.
Preparation of synthetic seismograms and well to seismic matching.
Act as dipole sonic and shear log data focal point
Identify and develop new applications for Sonic tools
Provide Borehole seismic support.
Promote the awareness of geophysical rock property, shear and NMR technologies amongst Geophysicists and where appropriate, amongst related disciplines.
Promote the involvement of the Geophysisict/ petrophysicist in geological reservoir modeling (e.g. defining porosity acoustic impedance relationships) and related software.
Support the increasing (model driven) inversion activity.
Assist in organizing suitable learning opportunities for BSP staff.
Job Purpose:
The successful candidate will be the petrophysical team member of the Special Studies & Quantitative Interpretation team closely co-operating with evaluation staff from the Asset Unit and Exploration teams. The team (10 staff positions including 4 technical assistants) is active in AVO analyses, inversion, forward seismic modeling, visualization and multi-attribute (neural net) analyses and is also involved in carrying out 3D pre-stack and post-stack depth migration. 4D feasibility studies are currently being looked into. In addition, BSP is global champion of Smart Wells and the Geophysical Services Department may play a more substantial role in this in the future. In some cases application of the technology aims at directly impacting geological models or reservoir models. In most cases the additional information is integrated with a quantitative interpretation / lateral prediction study, which impacts the maturation of prospects or field development plans. Most well proposals are supported by a special geophysical study.
The petrophysicist in the team will be expected to assist and deploy Petrophysical "Best Practices" in the context of the seismic Quantitative Interpretation, Special Studies, and the Seismic Processing environment in BSP. Emphasis in the section will be on the implementation of the latest geophysical rock property analysis and shear log technology.
