| Job Description: |
Conducts tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering, and scientific personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil by performing the following duties:
*Accountable for managing the environmental program to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
*Provide technical assistance regarding the chemical treatment of the company's metal finishing process.
*Maintains various records on pollutants as required by OSHA, EDP, Macon Water Authority, and other government agencies.
*Completes various government reports on pollutants as required by federal, state and local regulations.
*Investigates fluctuations in effluent quality to determine problem source, and suggests methods for fluctuation preventions to TE.
*Determines data collection methods to be employed in research projects and surveys.
*Identifies and analyzes sources of pollution to determine their effects and suggest solutions to alleviate regulatory issues.
*Collects and synthesizes data derived from pollution emission measurements, atmospheric monitoring, meteorological and mineralogical information, and soil or water samples.
*Conducts chemical and physical laboratory and field tests according to prescribed standards to determine characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials and substances.
*Collects samples of gases from smokestacks, and collects other air samples and meteorological data to assist in evaluation of atmospheric pollutants.
*Collects water samples from streams and lakes, or raw, semi-processed or processed water, industrial wastewater, or water from other sources to assess pollution problem.
*Collects soil, silt, or mud to determine chemical composition and nature of pollutants.
*Identifies and categorizes wastes for proper disposal according to local, state and federal regulations.
*Prepare environmental budget.
*Prepares sample for testing, records data, and prepares summaries and charts for review.
*Supervise the setup of monitoring equipment to provide regulatory data.
*Operates fixed or mobile monitoring or data collection station.
*Conducts, initiates, and supervises tests related to research in environmental or pollution control activity.
*Collects and analyzes equipment exhaust emissions to determine type and amount of pollutants.
*Complete water and air permit applications and review with appropriate managers.
*Supervise completion of NOI, Annual Waste generator Status Report, EPCRA and Tri Reports.
*Supervises Hazardous Waste Program (waste pick-ups, DOT Regulations), Hazardous Communications Program (MSDS), and weekly inspections.
*Completes NFPA triangles per MSDS and chemical knowledge.
*Responsible for compliance of the MSDS program for ISO 9000.
*Completes hazardous waste activity reports and waste Minimization plan.
*Assists in ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 audits.
*Correspond with applicable regulatory agencies to resolve environmental issues.
*Lead regulatory inspections for local, state, and federal agencies.
*Perform other duties as required.
