| Job Description: |
Responsibilities: Interact with the children to address their emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of both the individual and the group of children. Maintain a safe and clean environment in the childcare center, ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Work collaboratively with research project staff to assess and build children’s resiliency skills. Conduct formal assessments with parents and children to determine parenting and childcare needs, and make referrals as appropriate. Assist with curriculum plans that are developmentally appropriate for children. Work with parents sensitively to address family issues such as behavior, grooming, developmental issues, discipline, etc. Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behavior. Maintain appropriate and positive discipline. Supervise scheduled field trips. |
Skills Required:: |
Qualifications: Must have CT Department of Public Health Head Teacher certification for early childhood. Ability to work independently and with childcare staff and volunteers. Ability to implement curriculum and to conduct informal assessments with children. Emotional maturity and stability. Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children. Physical stamina. Ability to identify and record significant individual and group behavior. Preferred: Previous experience working with low-income and multi-cultural children. Bilingual and bicultural abilities in Spanish/English also a plus. Persons with life experience with homelessness or the welfare system also preferred. |
