| Job Description: |
Spend a year working and camping at some of Nevada’s premier natural areas. Serve alongside international volunteers and college students from across the country while making a lasting contribution to Nevada’s natural heritage. Gain valuable field experience while working on habitat improvement, restoration, and recreation projects with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and local and state agencies. Provide a national service with your environmental restoration efforts and work all over the state in a diverse and beautiful array of desert, mountain and alpine habitats.
Compensation:
This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a living stipend of $14,122
for the year. This is not an hourly wage or a salary and is paid to members biweekly throughout the entire year. Upon completion ofAmeriCorps service, members shall receive an additional education award in the amount of $4,725 that can be
used for paying off student loans, or paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college.
Timeline: August 18, 2008 – August 14, 2009
Conservation Projects:
• Trail building and rehabilitation
• Exotic species removal
• Forest thinning
• Habitat restoration
• Riparian rehabilitation
• Illegal road decommissioning
Duties:
• Maintaining a positive and professional attitude at all times while providing service
• Communicating with agency project staff
• Complying with both production and quality work standards established by NCC
administration, crew supervisors and project partners
• Contributing to basic duties at the campsite including cooking, cleaning and organizing crew equipment
Work Schedule:
During the first 8-10 weeks the crew member’s schedule consists of 4 days in the field (Monday-Thursday) followed by 3 days off. During this time members will be asked to camp in the Lake Tahoe area during days off. The NCC will provide camp sites and arrange for showers and access to kitchen equipment. Following the first snowfall, the
members will move to southern Nevada for the winter season. The NCC will help arrange for housing in Southern Nevada. Finally members will return to Northern Nevada in late spring to complete your term of service in the Lake Tahoe area. The NCC will
again help to arrange housing for members during this transition.
Training:
Members will attend a 5-day orientation session where they will receive training in chainsaw use, trail building, leave-no-trace
ethics, CPR/First Aide, and effective citizenship.

• Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge
• Ely, Nevada
We will have crews based in both Reno and Las Vegas. Crews will work locally as well
as travel to far reaches of the state.

Qualifications:
To qualify, you must be at least 17 years of age and a US citizen that has received a high school diploma or GED (or be willing to achieve this before using education award).
