| Job Description: |
Responsibilities:
a) Management
· To ensure the workload and studies are assigned to the technical staff and that there is sufficient manpower coverage for the laboratories.
· Responsible for recruiting personnel as required.
· Responsible for the allocation and ordering of animals for study and to manage food and bedding stock and supply.
· To plan, prioritize, and liaise with other members of the team (analytical staff, study director, QA) to optimize the contribution of the animal unit team to the conduct of the studies.
· Work with the Study Director to ensure all study procedures are completed according to the study protocol and are compliant with all company and regulatory policies.
· To ensure equipment maintains its validated state and SOPs are kept up to date and available. To organize or assist in the evaluation and acquisition of new equipment and / or technology.
· To ensure QA comments are addressed fully and in a timely manner.
· To train staff to a high level of competency in techniques / procedures and ensure this is appropriately recorded in the individuals training record.
· To monitor staff progress and assist in their development to acquire a broad range of skills, knowledge and expertise.
· To demonstrate strong management skills via continual correspondence / communication, staff performance, documentation (G&O’s, appraisals etc.).
· To ensure all activities within the animal unit are conducted in accordance with company and regulatory animal welfare, GLP and health and safety policies.
b) Technical
· To undertake an extensive range of dosing and sample collection techniques.
· To conduct specialized techniques (e.g. collection of primate CSF).
· To assist in animal surgeries and anaesthesia.
· To conduct euthanasia and necropsies.
· To act the Responsible Person for the conduct of a study.
· To work with the model development group, scientists and veterinary team to establish and develop animal models.
c) Technical Specialist for Telemetry
· Conduct procedures and prepare study files and perform data analysis
· Conduct data analysis QC and checking of study data.
· Train other staff in telemetry techniques and procedures
· Responsible for the validation of the telemetry equipment and the writing, reviewing and the implementation of the telemetry SOPs and continual review of CSV pack for Telemetry.
d) Facilities
· To ensure that the facility meets the standards required to perform regulatory studies and client expectations.
· To ensure that facility works carried out meet the required standard and to feedback information to Facility Director all substandard work observed.
e) Business Development
· To support business development by conducting tours of the animal facility and attending client meetings.
· To assist business development in the preparation of marketing materials.
· To assist business development in the preparation of study proposals.

Skills Required:: |
Requirements
a) Minimum Qualifications
· To hold a relevant life science or veterinary degree.
b) Experience
· A minimum of 5 years experience in a CRO, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry in an animal facility.
· Extensive knowledge and experience of animal welfare regulations and ethics.
· Strong knowledge and experience of US FDA GLP and/or OECD GLP regulations.
c) Scientific Skills
· Expert and competent to train in a range of drug administration and body fluid collection techniques in both rodents and primates.
· Competent in performing euthanasia and necropsy.
d) Communication Skills
· Ability to work with all members of the research team and build rapport.
· Demonstrate leadership qualities.
· Strong customer focus.
· Demonstrate time management skills.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
