Responsibilities:
· Conduct :-
o daily clinical observations of the rodents and primates and communicate any findings and document observations and findings in the appropriate logs.
o and record detailed clinical signs and report significant findings and train junior staff in to recognize clinical signs.
· Perform :-
o and/or train junior staff in Oral administrations, I.V, I.M. ID and SC administrations in rodents and primates.
o and/or train junior staff in anesthesia procedures and orbital bleeds in rodents.
o and/or train junior staff in primate blood sampling and restraint techniques.
o all aspects of quarantine procedures and be responsible for quarantine daily duties.
· Provide assistance to :-
o attending veterinarian in the administration of veterinary compounds, health checks and recording observations and treatment in individual animal records.
o surgical team, including the set up of operating theatre.
o prosectors during both rodent and primate necropsies and may even conduct necropsies.
o maintain the feed and bedding records and room logs.
· Set up metabolism cages and perform urine and faecal collection in rodents.
· Maintain training records; participate in any training given by Maccine or external source.
Requirements:
· “O” or “A” level with practical experience in animal husbandry or Diploma in Biotechnology (Vet Science Option) or Degree in Science (Biological Sciences)
· Candidates who do not have the academic qualifications but possess proven track record of practical experience in the following areas may be considered :-
· Handle, dose and collect samples from primates (MUST) and rodents (desirable)
· Techniques in primate highly desirable on surgery, ultrasound, dexa and necropsy.
· Implant rodents with tumour cell lines, measure tumours highly and conduct roden necropsy desirable.
· Possess good spoken and written English.
· Physically fit as some tasks may require physical strength to perform.
· Ability to work under pressure and be flexible.
