Purpose of Job
Information is defined as Knowledge, Documents, and Data in this context. Software applications are selected to support Information Management (IM), and IT Infrastructure is implemented to support the applications and people. It is the purpose of this position to:
· Identify the business and project requirements for all information necessary during the lifecycle of the assets being delivered.
· Specify the delivery schedule and format of the information.
· Include those requirements in all project contracts for services and materials.
· Ensure the IM applications (ASSAI/Livelink/IDB/AHA4P) have been delivered to support the storing, control, sharing, workflow, security, accuracy and completeness of the information.
· Expedite the delivery of information from designers, contractors and suppliers.
· Handover the information to Operations in a format that supports the population of critical operating systems (eg. SAP PM), before the equipment is required to operate.
The Project Information Manager is a high profile position at the heart of projects. IM is a newly recognised discipline in Explorations & Production in which an emerging global community of Project IM Managers are actively supporting their projects and networking with each other to develop processes to control the information delivered at all phases of a project.
Information is required by the projects to identify, define and execute the work, and by the business to operate and later retire the completed assets. Typically there are some 150 000 documents and 30 databases delivered between project kick-off and hand-over to Operations. The IM Manager interfaces with Operations staff, project team members, discipline engineers, designers, constructors and equipment suppliers to specify, plan and deliver information in formats compatible with Shell systems. He/She will also be responsible for developing and implementing project IM strategy, developing contractual terms and conditions, determine ways of working, oversee IM QA/QC activities and manage the final handover process.
Due to the many facets of this position, it will inevitably broaden the skills of the successful candidate. The Project Information Manager will enjoy 100% support from Projects leadership and become part of a potent team that aims to change the game of project execution.
Principal accountabilities

Key interfaces are hundreds of suppliers of information, including project engineers, contractors and equipment vendors, and information customers. The scope includes contracts, collaborative processes, knowledge management, information management, standards and behaviours, infrastructure and the applications that are the project teams toolkit. The position will give exposure to industry (extranet) collaboration, e-commerce and (electronic) learning systems.
Roles & Responsibilities
· Project team’s IM expert & champion with responsibility for rolling out the project IM framework across the Project(s portfolio). This includes developing strategies for the IM processes, as well as planning, costing and recruitment of necessary IM resources.
· Serve as IM interface to project contractors and equipment suppliers and optimise the information exchange between all internal and external project team participants. Serve as interface with the Operations and Asset teams that are the end customers and optimise the final information handover to them.
· Co-ordinate the project team IM activities at remote design or project contractor offices.
· Interface with EP Project’s IM for Projects Regional and Global team to ensure that group standards are applied where relevant and that learning are exchanged both ways.
· Develop and implement information processes and systems for capital project execution.
· Implement IM solutions for engineering projects based on current guidelines including the IM framework, the Engineering Information Specification EIS and the PMI applications portfolio.
· Drive improvements in project execution through leadership, standards and behaviours. Implement solutions that educate and encourage internal and external stakeholders to become more collaborative.
· Manage project information assets. Implement, promote and operate solutions that support the projects’ objectives, facility lifecycle value delivery and global knowledge sharing and collaboration.
· Co-ordinate use of the Project teams’ information assets, including procedures, standards and all past-project learning and designs.
