| Job Description: |
Typical Responsibilities
1. Web Site Design. Responsible for Web site planning and design including information design, site/structure/navigation design, accessibility, elements of page design, browser issues, connection issues, and platform issues, corporate identity and corporate design.
2. Web Site Management. Responsible for file structure/organization, proofing a Web site before publishing it, ongoing content management, and conformity with legal concerns.
3. Web Graphics. Responsible for basic graphic issues, issues related to background images, basic color issues, graphic file optimization, animated GIF and Web design considerations regarding viewing capabilities of intended audience.
4. Web Multimedia. Application of multimedia (premiere, flash etc.) and sound editing software products. Responsible for applicability standards of HTML vs. Flash-based Web sites.
5. Web Maintenance. Responsible for the updating and maintenance of web content through liaison with college staff. Consults with appropriate personnel concerning networking, server and security capabilities and standards. Liaises with college staff for correct informational content.
6. Web Marketing. As a member of the Communications and Information staff, is responsible for integration of the Vanier website into the communications, recruitment and marketing campaigns of the college, contributing to strategies for creating an effective Web presence, and concepts important to marketing via the Web.
7. Responsible for keeping up with technological change and new information about web design, development, and standards both within the college, in the educational milieu and in the industry.
8. Participates in Enrollment Management activities as required. |
Skills Required:: |
Qualifications
• Dec in appropriate specialization.
Conditions Related To The Specific Position
• Background of appropriate specialization in the visual arts field: web development, video/sound editing, multimedia and graphics design.
• Bilingual (basic French and English oral and written skills)
• Basic knowledge of Internet concepts, HTML and WYSIWYG (visual) editors, Markup and CSS, Web graphics, Web multimedia, Web site design, Web site management, and basic legal issues involving websites (to be tested).
• Ability to use digital cameras and scanners to acquire electronic images.
• HTML/XHTML coding and HTML 4.0 and XHTML tags, javascript and php for databases (to be tested).
• Ability to use graphics software programs for creation and modification of Web graphics.
• Database development knowledge for offline and online applications is an asset.
• Knowledge of content management systems.
• Knowledge of search engine optimization techniques.
