Job Title Senior Structural Design Engineer Office
Department Civil and Structural Engineering Grade: C
Reports to Head of Civil & Structural Engineering
Job purpose
To design structures which comply with the strength, functional, safety, durability, and economical criteria established for the project.
Duties - include but are not limited to ¡K
„X Obtain information related to physical and geotechnical properties of project site. (e.G. Topographical, bathymetric, existing utilities, contamination, chemical/physical properties of the soil, etc.)
„X Prepare design criteria related to the structure, such as: intended use of building, loadings, materials of construction,stability provisions, fire resistance, codes and standards to be used in the design.
„X Liaise/coordinate with other departments and specialist consultants/contractors to incorporate their requirements.
„X Prepare engineering analysis and design, in accordance with internationally recognised design codes and standards, utilising analysis & design software.
„X Implement the departmental QA/QC standards for design documentation and procedures.
„X Instruct the autoCAD technicians on the drawing requirements in order to communicate clearly, unambiguously and concisely the design information to the contractors.
„X Obtain project budgets and schedules from the HOD and PM`s, and ensure that work is produced on time, and within budget.
„X Assist in the guidance and training of junior engineers, supervise their work, and encourage their professional development.
„X Provide technical support to site based supervision staff (for checking contractors submittals, responding to RFI`s, etc.)
„X Represent SSH and the structural department at meetings, both in-house, and with other external parties.
„X Communicate effectively with other professionals, clients, contractors, etc. Both verbally, and through written communications, e.G. Technical presentations, letters, technical reports, etc.
Supervisory Responsibilities
List number and titles of subordinates Yes
Intermediate and junior engineers, autoCAD technicians. Numbers vary, depending on project and departmental requirements
Physical Demands of the job Mainly sedentary, walking and climbing required for site visits, driving.
Minimum Qualifications B.Sc or B.Eng in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications M.Sc. Or M.Eng in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
Registration required Kuwait Society of Engineers
Type of Experience required 10 years, directly relevant.
