| Job Description: |
The Chief Operating Engineer in accordance with all governing regulations will provide sound leadership and direction to the Powerhouse, Plant ammonia systems, Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning (HVAC) Department ensuring the delivery of consistent equipment reliability and asset preservation.
Responsibilities:
Maintains a safe and clean work environment by ensuring that the Plant and Powerhouse are in accordance with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (T.S.S.A.), ensuring that all work performed complies with governing practices, codes and regulations; and by maintaining accurate records of safe management, operations and maintenance through compliance with company policies and procedures and property loss control programs
Maintains workflow by planning, scheduling and supervising all work within/on the efficient operation of the Powerhouse, Plant ammonia systems, refrigeration, and the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, air handling units for the entire plant; and communicating deficiencies and issues to peers and maintenance manager on a daily basis
Guides the development of employees by inspecting the work of subordinate powerhouse engineers and mechanics for compliance with governing policies, providing training to employees when needed, and assistance in solving maintenance issues
Improve plant efficiency by reporting on operating conditions of equipment, planning capital requirements for safe and efficient operations, providing calculations on various energy projects, recommending solutions on steam, water, natural gas and electricity issues and developing and implementing the preventative maintenance program
Manage departmental operating budget for Powerhouse
Maintains working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective agreement
Specifications:
1st Class Engineer License/Certification in good standing with the T.S.S.A.
5-10 years experience as a Chief Operating Engineer
Experience in Ammonia Systems
Broad experience within a food processing environment
Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel, Windows
Working experience with computerized Maintenance Management System
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
