This new and exciting Organisation is seeking an experienced Assistant Stage Manager for a permanent role based in Doha, Qatar.
The Assistant Stage Manager is responsible for the execution of all or part of staging and technical needs for all concert events, including: stage management; instrument rentals, deliveries and tunings; sound, lighting, recording, video/projection; set up and running of rehearsals.
Your duties and responsibilities include:
Concert and Event Production:
1. Along with Manager, Stage Production, determine production needs for all services of the orchestra.
This includes stage set-ups, needed instruments (including percussion), other equipment need, dressing rooms, sound, lighting, and video.
2. Work closely with each venue and communicate clearly the needed technical requirements of the orchestra.
3. Work with production crew to cover all load-ins, load-outs, set-ups, rehearsals, and performances.
4. Execute all guest artist riders as required in regard to stage and technical needs.
5. Troubleshoot technical equipment difficulties as needed.
6. Arrange for repair of non-functioning equipment.
7. Work with the Assistant Stage Manager, Percussionists and Principal Timpanist to determine what the percussion and timpani instrument needs are for any given performance.
8. Oversee the coordination of truck needs for concerts.
Other:
1. Scout remote performance venues to determine suitability and anticipate special needs.
2. Other duties as needed as they relate to the production of concert events.
3. Responsible for supervising the work and schedule of the Assistant Stage Manager, stage hands and casual labour crews at the various venues in which the orchestra performs. Support the Manager, Stage Production in establishing a system of process and procedures for the production department that are capable of aligning the operational business plan to the organization’s vision and mission.
4. Create mutually beneficial working relationships with local vendors and venue management while simultaneously projecting a positive image of the organization.
5. The successful candidate is encouraged to approach the conventional responsibilities of Stage Production with new perspectives.
Decision Making Authority & Responsibility:
1. Assist Manager, Stage Production in reviewing stage hands.
2. Assist Manager, Stage with developing and implementing Stage Hand training program.
3. Certify the safety of all equipment and instruments.
4. Supervise and delegate production responsibilities to Stage Hands and temporary workers and serve as lead production manager when Assist Manager, Stage is not present.
To apply for the role you will possess A Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, music, arts, or a similar discipline from a globally accredited university or related work experience in peer organizations.
Skills:
1. Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and database applications.
2. Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills essential along with concise writing proficiency.
3. Proven problem-solving skills in high-pressure environment.
Prior orchestra production experience or relevant combination of education and/or training and experience in technical production is desired.
You will also have an understanding of unique issues related to detailed work contract oriented job environment and knowledge of traditional Western European classical music instruments.
Salary is negotiable and expected to be between $25,000 - $35,000 USD per year Tax Free (negotiable) plus an excellent benefits package.
