| Job Description: |
The Packaging Systems Engineering group in the Global Operations Engineering utilizes all aspects of conceptual engineering design, cost estimation techniques, system and project proposal development, supplier evaluations, equipment and system installation and start up, and successful transition of the system to the plant operating and maintenance staff. The job incumbent will be required to provide the optimal packaging solution for the given project. These solutions will include packaging and control support for all phases of the capital projects including development of system concepts, design, cost estimating, system installation, check-out, commissioning, and successful transition of deliverables, including system operation manuals, maintenance documents, and technical knowledge to the plant staff This individual must demonstrate a willingness to identify process and manufacturing alternatives that meet new business requirements or establish functional excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Appropriate combination of knowledge and experience in design of packaging systems for the food industry including: 1) an understanding of common packaging materials used in the food packaging industry 2) high speed flow wrapping of various food products, which must include demonstrated knowledge of product alignment and distribution, wrapper feeding, and application of wrappers across a wide range of product types 3) secondary packaging such as carton and tray loading, statistical scales and VFFS (bagging) equipment, and etc... 4) Tertiary packaging including case packaging and palletizing 5) A thorough knowledge of robotics used in the food industry.
- Serve as a lead in the areas of design, application, and maintenance of: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC`s); electrical and electronic industrial instrumentation; automation and process control; industrial computer systems; motor control; distributed control systems; and other automation, electrical power, computer, and control technologies.
- Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to prioritize, and have an understanding of the required business objectives, developing solutions, control schemes and schedules, and efficient and expedient project executions.
- Provides technical analyses, develops alternatives (cost estimates, feasibility, specifications, and interpretation of requirements) and prepares recommendations, if required.
- Demonstrates the appropriate negotiating skills to process projects and other job related duties from inception to completion. This includes vendor negotiation, OEM relationships and contractual agreements.
- Evaluates and participates in cross-functional processes in order to diagnose root cause issues and provide options for resolution.
- Provides appropriate level of mentoring and training to team members as well as our manufacturing customer base.

Skills Required:: |
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Mecatronics) or BS-- Engineering Technology and/or relative engineering experience within The Hershey Company.
Experience:
This position can be filled at multiple levels depending on the selected candidates experience. Minimum experience requires at least 7 years of related packaging systems experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Foreign languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Asian languages, etc.)
- Food or Pharmaceutical experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with machine and equipment design.
- Appropriate knowledge of servo control technology.
* This position will require extensive domestic and international travel at times to support the on-going business needs of the corporation
