Brief version:
Supervision of staff, attention to customers, ordering/ receiving, light accounting, administration, errand-running, trouble-shooting, food preparation, menu-planning, various others as needed.
Longer version:
The menu at Cafe La Rosita is short and sweet so this is not necessarily an internship ideal for someone who wants to expand his or her gourmet skills. The right applicant is someone who is dedicated to customer service and who is interested in the finer points of growing a business in a challenging third-world landscape and who is also interested in expanding the menu in practical ways. Questions that the right candidate will seek to answer might be some of the following: What ingredients are available? What is the staff capable of learning to prepare consistently? How can we mix local preferences with international tastes to keep both types of clients coming? How can we reduce costs? How can we promote our mission without sounding like an ngo instead of a cafe? How can we keep smiling when the water cuts off?
Working in the challenging climate of a third world country in the midst of constant change is not a job to be undertaken by just anyone. We seek a flexible team player who is not unsettled by bumps in the road and who is invested in increasing the profitability of the business without deviating from our basic "mission" of bringing excellent coffee to locals at reasonable prices. We offer a small stipend and lodging. While fluency in Spanish is not required, an intermediate skill level is. A minimum stay of 4 months is required. Skills Required:: |
