| Job Description: |
Review, respond and resolve all incidents as per the defined Service Level Requirements.
Maintain incidents and problems records in the Incident & Problem Management tool (HP Openview Service Center 6.2) following the defined processes
Understand system process requirements and communicate these to the business when required.
Conduct Problem management activities. This includes pro-actively reviewing incidents to identify common/repeating/similar incidents and raising a problem to ensure the root cause is identified and a resolution is implemented as per the defined Service Level Requirements.
Document and package all defect fixes in a consistent manner and deliver to the agreed priorities / release strategy.
Monitor and manage all batch schedules
Respond to operational/adhoc requests so that the business can:
O Continue to operate
O Extend existing operations
O Maximise operational efficiency
O Satisfy Information Provisioning requirements
Provide onsite support to resolve critical (severity 1) issues as required.
Review, respond and resolve all incidents as per the defined Service Level Requirements.
Maintain incident and problem records when an action occurs in the Incident & Problem Management tool (HP Openview Service Center 6.2).
Maintain the current high availability database environment.
Create new database instances that comply with specified requirements and standards when requested.
Manage database schemas including keeping all like databases in synch.
Schema changes are applied in a controlled manner causing no unplanned disruption to the business.
Ensure all databases/journals are backed up to disk daily and subsequently moved to tape with any failures addressed as a matter of urgency.
Work closely with application development and support teams during project development. It is expected that the RDB DBA team offer significant input in regards to efficient database access, query design and overall data access strategy.
Understand growth patterns in the database environment and effectively manage resources to ensure database availability is not impacted. This should include but is not limited to:
O Monitoring the size of tables in all databases to predict growth over time.
O Ensuring database areas have sufficient disk space to extend if required to ensure database availability is not impacted.
O Tracking available free space on all database disks and predicting any shortfalls that may occur over time
O Rebuild tables where fragmentation has occurred.
Proactively monitor the database environment for any conditions that may affect database availability or performance, and perform remedial action to minimise impact to the business. This should include, but is not limited to:
O excessive locking
O snapshot growth
Execute general performance monitoring and rectification as required.
Provide support for existing ODBC/OCI/JDBC connectivity and setting up new services as required.
Identify tables that require purging, provide recommendations regarding purging opportunities that will improve performance.
Implement purging requirements to ensure storage capacity doesnt exceed current constraints
Schedule and undertake regular archiving/purging of identified large tables to ensure database performance is maintained.
Evaluation, recommendation and execution of RDB upgrades to ensure that environments are on the current supported release of RDB.
Monitor and maintain the existing Data Distributor transfers
Define, initialise and maintain new Data Distributor transfers as required.
Creation and Maintenance of Operational Relationship with Oracle for RDB database issues
