Upper Elementary Homeroom Teacher (Mixed class - grades 4, 5, and 6) at the Rawai Progressive International School in Phuket, Thailand.
The Rawai Progressive International School in Phuket is a private school for children ages 3-12 (through grade 6) that offers education based on the Montessori philosophy. We are a small school with roughly 80 students in mixed age classes (Kindergarten, 3-6 years old, Lower Elementary, 6-9 years old, and Upper Elementary, 9-12 years old/grades 4, 5, and 6). We are situated in the wonderful community of Rawai in the southern end of Phuket on a seaside property.
The Kindergarten and Lower Elementary levels at RPIS are run as Montessori classrooms, adhering strictly to the Montessori method. Our Upper Elementary is set up to start incorporating more traditional elements (like textbooks), while carrying through some aspects of Montessori philosophy (respect for the child, mixed-age level groupings, integrated studies and project work, hands on learning grounded in nature and the community, rich and integrative cultural studies etc.).
There are three teachers who will be working with the Upper Elementary class: the Homeroom Teacher, a Thai Teacher, and a Co-Teacher (who will be focusing mainly in the language arts area).
We are currently seeking an Upper Elementary Homeroom Teacher with the following qualifications to start at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year in August.
- Minimum educational requirement: Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Education
(if not in Education, than Bachelor’s Degree + other teaching qualification required.)
- Minimum 2 years teaching experience, preferably with children ages 9 - 12
- Familiarity with planning interdisciplinary units
- Native English speaker only
- Strong teaching skills in Math and Science
- Interest or experience with Montessori or other child-centered methods of teaching
- Organized, adaptable, up to the challenge of teaching in an innovative, child-centered program
- Preferably a desire to remain in Phuket for at least 2 years
The salary range for this position is from 35,000 - 40,000 baht per month, paid 12 months a year including holidays. Salary may be negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include emergency and inpatient health insurance, daily lunch, and may include compensation for airfare for teachers coming from abroad. After the initial visa, we pay for all fees and assist with visas, teacher licensing, and work permit with the relevant authorities.
