| Job Description: |
Job Purpose
1. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements relating to safety, health and environmental issues. This includes obtaining and maintaining the necessary permits, and controlling standards and methods used in complying with the OHS Act.
2. Continuously improve safety, health and environmental systems and standards.
3. Implement and maintain a Behaviour Based Safety programme.
4. Manage and continuously improve a maintenance organisation that supports the requirements of the business by maximising company profit. This includes incorporation of cutting-edge maintenance technologies into the array of maintenance tactics.
5. Compile and manage the maintenance, capital expenditure and SHE budget.
6. Manage and continuously improve plant engineering standards.
7. Execute capital expenditure projects approved by the management team. Ensure that the most appropriate asset is acquired for the required application, in accordance with plant engineering standards.
8. Develop, monitor and continuously improve Key Performance Indicators for the maintenance, SHE and security functions. Address deviations.
9. Ensure that the Engineering Department complies with and supports ISO9001:2000.
10. Keep the General Manager informed of all important issues relating to SHE, security and engineering.
11. Liaise closely with the Production Manager and Technical Manager to ensure optimal operation of the manufacturing organisation, both regarding asset and SHE performance.
12. Manage, develop and train subordinates. Plan recruitment and advancement by taking into consideration the requirements of the Employment Equity Bill.
13. Chairman of the Safety Meeting.
Qualification & Experience
• BSc. Eng Mechanical or Electrical, or S4 / T4 engineering (mechanical or electrical) diploma
• GCC (Government Certificate of Competency)
• 6 – 8 years experience – ideally in the manufacturing field.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good management ability.
• Perseverance, honesty, pro-activity.
• Thorough understanding of maintenance tactics and the practical implementation thereof.
• Thorough understanding of SHE systems.
