Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, plans, organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates operation of Pharmacy and I.V. therapy Departments in accordance with established objectives and policies of the hospital. Serves as permanent Secretary of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and carries out actions thereof. Coordinates operations with other departments for most efficient/effective service. Manages or oversees correspondence and responds to regulatory agencies. Responsibility for professional and fiscal operation of Pharmacy and I.V. Service.
1. Plans department operations consistently with organizational policies, mission, resources, and professional standards.
2. Organizes staff with objective of providing optimum pharmacy service.
3. Coordinates operation of department in cooperation with other professionals and groups in the organization.
4. Controls quality of process and services provided by department.
5. Evaluates outcomes utilizing quality/performance improvement process.
6. Promotes increased standards of knowledge and competency of staff.
7. Is responsible for department operations and policies and procedures.
8. Completes accurate minutes for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
9. Considers patient safety as a major priority of medication therapy.
10. Capable of working with mathematical, technological and pharmacy processes.
11. Demonstrates ability to work with hospital, departmental, and office computer programs and systems.
12. Assures processes are in place to provide accuracy in compounding and dispensing by department.
13. Demonstrates initiative and good judgment in solving pharmaceutical and pharmacological problems, operational and systems issues, financial management issues, and furnishing accurate and reliable information to health professionals.
14. Understands the efficacy, safety and economic characteristics of medications.
15. Assures compliance with federal and state laws, professional practice standards relating to healthcare and the practice of pharmacy, and JCAHO standards.
16. Cooperates with and balance priorities with groups outside the department in achieving optimum service.
17. Understands hazardous materials and principles of elimination of exposure.
18. Cooperates with other employees and is able to supervise subordinates.
19. Promotes teamwork with other employees and provides appropriate supervision of associates.
20. Ensures staff and department development relative to use of medications and medication control systems.
21. Detects errors in prescriptions, dosages and compounding.
22. Follows standard formulas, makes frequent independent decisions in a variety of technical matters.
23. Demonstrates competence in professional and commercial phases of Pharmacy.
Requirements:
• Candidate must have 3-5 years of hospital experience (leadership experienced preferred
• Candidate will have strong Operations, Purchasing, Finance and Budgeting background.
• Candidate must have excellent team management skills
• Must have Florida Pharmacist License and Consultant License
• Experienced in hospital unit-dose dispensing system, I.V. additive program and computer necessary to continued success
