Job Description
Senior Manager - Urban Planning
Qualifications
o Minimum of one degree in urban and regional planning
o One post-graduate degree qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or related discipline (eg, geography, property and economics, development management, urban design, architecture)
Required Experience and Abilities
o 12+ years professional experience in urban and regional planning
o Minimum 2 years experience working with government in a planning role
o Experience in strategic planning in an urban and regional context
o Experience working on master planning of brownfield and greenfield developments
o Proven experience in policy, code, guideline and regulation drafting and review
o Experience leading and undertaking development review / assessment (preferably experience working in a development review role within government)
o Experience providing technical planning advice to varied audiences
o Experience in management of a team of varying sizes and disciplines
o Experience working in and leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects with an integrated planning approach
o Experience working in the Middle East region
o Experience working in or with a development company
o Experience providing presentations and reporting to various audiences
o Experience working with GIS and integrating GIS and planning eg, establishing data bases, mapping
o Proven experience of effective management of consultants from preparation of project scopes through to delivery of quality outcomes
o Experience liaising with government agencies
o Experience following projects through to implementation / delivery
o Experience in development of procedures for approvals
Skills and Capabilities
o Ability to understand the big / comprehensive picture and identify the fine detail – in a planning and development context
o Ability to work in and lead multi-disciplinary teams
o Ability to draft policy and codes and to provide ‘user-friendly’ directions to support those
o Understanding of development, delivery and financial issues for development
o Understanding of development regulations, practices and processes in the UAE
o Proven ability to present to large groups and people of varying cultures and disciplines
o Ability to set work programmes and deadlines and manage teams and consultants to deliver these
o Understanding and use of application of GIS
o Excellent oral and written skills
o Ability to negotiate
o Ability to liaise with government agencies as a representative of the company
o Ability to identify approaches to and issues with implementation of plans and designs and work to address these
o Ability to undertake technical review of designs, projects and consultant material and provide advice and feedback
o Ability to prepare clear scopes and manage consultants to deliver on these
