About my duties from immediate jobs:
As a Tracing Secretary at ICRC – Trincomalee
Welcoming Visitors and Family Visit Assistance:
Welcomed and registered visitors to the office. Took note of their request and gave the information, assistance, certificate and etc.
Managed the Family Visit Assistance system, met detainees’ relatives, issued FVA in coordination with Tracing Colombo and ensured follow-up and monitoring.
Co-ordinated with Muthur Tracing Secretary in relation to FVA.
Tracing Cases:
Received requests from people for Allegation of Arrest, Under Age Recruitment and Tracing Cases. Filled in the request from and categorised the cases. Collected relevant information and advised enquirers on confidentiality and ICRC’s mode of action (interventions). Informed the Protection Delegate about the case and, if necessary, helped him/her make Oral interventions in local languages.
Replaced Protection Field Officer during is absence when requested.
Protection Office and Secretarial Duties:
Responsible for co-ordinating the follow up of Tracing files, centralising and updating information related to them.
Maintained filling system updated at all times.
Centralised information and documents to be sent to Colombo / prepared the Bordereau.
Translated documents for Tamil to English and vice-versa. Compiled weekly statistics for the Protection Department.
Prepared / Sent / Handled Red Cross Messages, Detention Certificates Request letters, etc.
Deal with Prot – 5 Back Ups.
Managed Protection stock and prepared Request Orders.
Security information and interpreting:
Kept updated on general security situation and current affairs. Informed Protection Delegate accordingly.
Attended meetings with Protection Delegate to interpret.
Human Rights Commission’s Field Officer
I have joined with Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka on 1st of August 2006. I have appointed as a Human Rights Commission’s DRMU Field Officer. (Disaster Relief Monitoring Unit). We are taking full responsibility to carry out the grass root level people’s fundamental Human rights. We are working at Town & Gravest, Kinniya, Muthur and Kuchchaveli. This is very good experience to me to conduct the beneficiaries in their grass root level. Too many people don’t know about the Human Rights Commission’s activities. After our field visits they are very satisfied to take their basic rights. Mainly we are working for the Tsunami scheme. This field is very interested and powerful. We want to carry out every matter in genuine. I am doing also well like this.
Duties & Responsibilities:
01. Work in partnership with the DRMU office in Colombo and with the field offices to implement, set-up and oversee a Tsunami- related complaints procedure.
02. Carry-out outreach and awareness programs among the affected-communities with regard to their entitlement and rights as well as their recourse to justice in the event of rights violations.
03. Develop partnerships with INGOs, NGOs and CBOs in the district on rights-based issues and rights-based programming.
04. Conduct HRBA (Human Rights Based Approach) training programs for stakeholders in the relevant districts and continuous assessments of Human Rights issues related to Tsunami recovery.
05. Draft monthly situation reports on Tsunami –related rights to be sent to the DRMU.
As a Livelihood Project Officer
I have joined at SEDOT (Local NGO) as a Livelihood Project Officer on 1st of February 2006. On that time I worked at 6 villages. Especially Town & Gravest and Kuchchaveli. There are too many groups we formed to Livelihood promotion. I am the responsible person for the livelihood activities. We received the funds through Oxfam GB. We gave too many technical training to our beneficiaries through our project. This is very good for the grass root level people to help their livelihood.
In our project we didn’t made anything by grant. I received very good experiences after this project with beneficiaries. This is will help to me in my future works.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Mobilization training for Mobilizers and villagers.
2. Data collection regarding Livelihood issues.
3. Make sure the strong communication between Livelihood Project Officer and village Mobilizers.
4. To ensure the zero conflict creations by village Mobilizers among community.
5. Livelihood awareness.
6. Public health awareness in village level.
7. Forming operation & Management team.
8. Strengthening of CBOs.
9. Conduct Capacity Building Training, Non violence Communication and Business development trainings.
10. To ensure the proper timely reporting t organization.
As a Livelihood Assistant
After that I joined for Tsunami project, that time I worked for 23 villages as a livelihood assistant in Town & Gravest. We distribute too many fishing materials and self employment equipments to affected people. I am the responsible person for all that works. We gave 33 new boats and 33 new engines and we repaired too many damaged boats through my monitoring. We gave fishing nets to 20 villages. On that time I received too much variety of experiences from every people. But we want to keep patient and confidential to that works.
