Dear Sir/Madam
I am a second year student from Queens University Belfast. My course is Bachelor of Science Business Information and I would like to apply for a Placement position..
I am interested in a placement year as I feel I can put my learning throughout my time at university into practice and I feel I can fulfil the job description successfully. I am currently on a four year business degree pathway which meets the degree requirements specified in the vacancy. Also I feel I have the acquired knowledge and experience to fulfil the personal requirements.
I feel that I am well qualified to make an effective and useful contribution toto any company. I am enthusiastic about the chance to participate in a meaningful role to make a difference within a Northern Ireland business. I possess many technical skills including Java, Visual Basic, HTML, ASP and Macromedia Director MX. I also hold have a high level of communication, problem solving and team working skills.
Thank you for your consideration of my application. Please contact me should you require any further information and I look forward to hearing from you.

Work related skills:
Teamwork: Throughout my first year at university I have had many opportunities to work within a team environment to complete computer based projects. For example in the first semester I had to work in a team to design and implement a music kiosk using director MX 2004. In the second semester I was involved in team work to design and implement a theatre booking system. These projects have required good communication, determination and teamwork to successfully complete the projects on time.
Organisation and Planning: In a university project this year, I was given the role of project manager. This role allowed me to make a scheduled plan for the team to follow which coordinated the team in completing the task successfully and in time of the deadline. In work I am also given the responsibility to work on my own for four hours a week to serve customers. This requires an organised plan of actions to be made so that the customers receive a good quality service.
Communication: Good communication skills have allowed me to communicate well with my other team members and the potential client of the booking system. This has lead to the requirements of the booking system our team made to be met by communicating to refine the requirements and implement a solution to meet these. I have gained strong presentation skills developed through giving presentations during my time at university
Problem solving: This semester for the module Business Practice my problem solving skills were developed. I had to identify the communication problems between the entrepreneur and the group. This allowed the group as a team to come up with ideas to solve this, implement these ideas and carry out the interview successfully.
Business Awareness: I am aware of what the job involves, the activities I am likely to be involved with, and the skill and attributes needed to be successful in this role.
I have good research and analytical skills which I have developed through the writing of coursework at university. I am good at working under pressure, with a drive to get the task at hand finished, this has been emphasised during my time at university when I was working with tight deadlines.
