Research Topic:
“The Use of Hydrofoils for the Dynamic Support of High-speed Catamarans.”
The research objective was to study the functional ability of hydrofoil in terms of reducing the total resistance of high-speed catamaran. For this purpose a model of the already existing catamaran, Lady Jane Franklin was built and calm water resistance tests were conducted in the Ship Hydrodynamics Centre of AMC. It was found that the foil has a positive affect of reducing the total resistance by 15%-20% at speeds greater than 30 knots. As a part of the research a “Light-weight Six-component Force Balance” was designed, which can measure the lift, drag and side forces of the foil including the moments about all the three axes. In the aim of reducing the trim of the foil-assisted catamaran, the model was fixed with interceptors and the tests were conducted. The interceptors were found to have a positive affect in reducing trim drastically, but resistance is less at low speeds and more at high-speeds when compared to that without interceptors.

Key responsibilities are: ship designing, production of engineering drawings, making sure to conform to Uniform Shipping Laws (USL) code, liaising with surveyors, weight and powering calculations, structural analysis, stability assessment, undertaking of stability experiment and performing Naval Architecture and other engineering calculations.
Designed all boats from conceptual stage to the final completion of construction drawings. Main designs are:
• Four Patrol boats for Australian Customs
• Hydrographic Survey Vessel for Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC)
• Three jet cray fishing boats and
• Few small crafts
• Other client projects that involved general arrangement drawings
Supervised stability experiments for all boats.
Main design achievement:
Designed a Multi-beam transducer fairing as a part of Hydrographic survey vessel project for Port of Melbourne Corporation. This fairing is based on my experience in research on foilcats (refer to my educational qualifications). The result is a low drag fairing that suited successfully for hydrographic survey to the complete satisfaction of PoMC. The fairing has topped in its design and functional ability compared to a previous fairing designed by another firm.
Main CAD packages that are used for the projects are:
Maxsurf Suite
Ship Constructor
AutoCAD 2008
Vector Works 12
Rhino
Casual Lecturer
Australian Maritime College
Launceston
Jan 2004 –July 2004
The main role was to teach Naval Architecture and Ship Construction to the students of Diploma in Marine Engineering.
This was achieved by my motivation to educate others of my profession. I exhibited excellent teaching skills to the satisfaction of students and program head. Students in turn exhibited good knowledge in the application of Naval Architecture principles in short time.
Tutor Coordinator
Australian Maritime College
Launceston
2001-2004
Key responsibility was to assess the performance of students, help them by organising tutoring and train them in learning skills. Tutoring is related to all topics of engineering.
Labwork
Australian Maritime College
Launceston
2001-2002
Key responsibility was to conduct and train students in experiments with marine engines and boilers; to make them study the thermal and chemical properties of fuels used in Marine engines.
Junior Project Officer
Indian Institute of Technology
Kharagpur
INDIA
1999–2000
Project Title:
“Ship Design for Efficiency and Economy.”
Key responsibility was to design a commercial vessel for India that is technically sound and economically feasible. This project incorporated economic feasibility of the design, including the building and operating costs of the vessel.
Conducted a survey of the shipping market of India and did market analysis. It was found during the survey that the Indian government needs containerships. With this aim I conducted a preliminary analysis with my team. Did Naval Architectural calculations including the resistance and powering calculations using statistical and CFD analysis. The project was carried out in joint collaboration with five different government organisations: Department of Science & Technology (DSTO), Naval Science and Technological Laboratories (NSTL), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Gujarat Shipyard Ltd. (GSL) and Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
Graduate Engineer Trainee (Field Engineer)
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd.
Calcutta
INDIA.
1998–1999
Key responsibilities were to supervise at least 40 tradesmen on site during the construction of a Fast Attack Craft, conduct a dry survey of the ship and liaise with classification societies (LRS & IRS).
Exceptional leadership qualities were exhibited by gaining rapport with staff and tradesmen. Increased the production rate by at least 20% for the craft under construction. Did monitoring of scantling drawings from the design office and corrections were referred back before the drawings reached workshop. Quality checks were made for every task conforming to ISO standards. Changes to the construction and quality control processes were proposed to the shipyard by submitting a report titled, “Accuracy Control in Hull Erection.”
Naval Architect
Vizag Marine Consultants (Not existing at present)
Visakhapatnam
INDIA
1997–1998
Key responsibilities were to interact with surveyors and clients and also designing. Small crafts like barges and trawlers suited for the Visakhapatnam port were designed. Did as-fitted drawings of the already constructed trawlers and other commercial ships.
