My Final Year Project was entitled ¡¥A PC ¡V Based Cruise Monitoring System¡¦ and aimed at collecting traffic details, including speed and traffic lights, from a car. It involved the use of computer-vision software (RoboRealm) to detect traffic lights colour during a trip as well as measuring the speed of a motor and transmitting this information to a PC via an RS-232 interface to a Visual Basic user interface. This project has allowed me to be conversant in Visual Basic and RoboRealm as well as understand more about RS-232 protocol.

Working Experience
[ 17th July 2008 ¡V ] Capita Symonds
Title: Junior Electrical Engineer
ƒÞ Capita Symonds is a building services consultancy firm. My responsibilities include the following: electrical design, fire alarm design, tender document processing, tender analysis as well as testing and commissioning.
ƒÞ During the past eight months, I have been mainly involved in the following projects:
1. Electrical Design of a Business Hotel near the Airport in Mauritius consisting of 120 rooms where I was involved in the design for the lighting, fire alarm & power layouts as well as the design for the electrical plantrooms and the whole electrical infrastructure. Moreover, I was also able to learn to master Amtech, a power software used by electrical engineers, to simulate the design of the electrical infrastructure of the hotel and check if the electrical calculations met standards set by the 17th Edition of the BS 7671.
2. Load survey, which lasted over a period of a week, was carried out for 5-storey building at Curepipe, Mauritius using a power analyzer (Electrocorder) to estimate the power requirements of the building so as to size the generator appropriate for the infrastructure. Following the load survey, I also had to design the electrical plantroom for the infrastructure to be fully supported by a new generator in case of CEB power failure. In addition, I also participated in the preparation of tender document preparation.
3. Electrical Design of a Residential House at Moka, Mauritius. I was also involved in the preparation of tender document as well as tender return analysis stage of this project.
4. Testing and Commissioning of part of the electrical infrastructure of an IRS project at Beau Champ, Mauritius ¡V Anahita.
5. School for children with special needs in the UK ¡V This project was an outsourcing job that the Mauritian office had to design in collaboration with Capita Symonds Berkhamsted office. I played a key role in the lighting design of the infrastructure which was executed using lighting design software Dialux as well as in the fire alarm system design.
ƒÞ My experience at Capita Symonds has been a very enriching one as it has helped me acquire knowledge and know-how about various aspects of building services design including fire alarm and lighting design. I have been able to master software tools used widely by electrical engineers such as Dialux and Amtech. Working on the above-mentioned projects has helped me gained very good exposure to the complexities involved in the career of an electrical engineer in the building services industry and has helped me gained more confidence as to my abilities to handle such important projects.
[ 26th April 2004 ¡V 22nd June 2004 ] Muslim Girls College
Title: Education Officer
ƒÞ I taught Maths in Form I, II and V classes and Chemistry to students of Form V. It has been a very enriching experience and helped me to better communicate with people.
Training
[ 15th January 2007 ¡V 13th June 2007] Manser Saxon Contracting Ltd
Title: Trainee Engineer
ƒÞ I have pursued a 6-month industrial training as part of the requirements of my Electrical & Electronic degree at Manser Saxon Contracting Ltd where I got the opportunity to work on a hotel construction site at Balaclava on the Blue Ocean Project, where I was responsible for quality control. I was also involved in preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and shop drawing and cable sizing. I also got the opportunity to work in the company¡¦s workshop where I mounted some distribution boards. I have also been able to understand how the tendering process is carried out. This 6-month has been instrumental in helping me understand how professionals operate in the industry as well as allowing me to put my education to use. This experience was unique in the sense that I was able to monitor the evolution at a site from the start of the project and almost to the end and understand the processes involved in managing such a big project and leading it to its completion.
[ 9th June 2006 ¡V 1st August 2006] Systems Building Contracting Ltd
Title: Trainee Engineer
ƒÞ I have worked as a trainee engineer at Systems Building Ltd at the Bank of Mauritius site. There, I acted as a quality controller and got the opportunity to participate in the testing and commissioning procedures during handing ¡Vover. In addition, I was able to assist a technician in the design of a fire alarm system. This experience has helped to understand the importance of electrical contracting and the procedures involved in the execution of a project.
