Chair Search Committee Member November 2007 - January 2008
Department of English and Drama University of Toronto Mississauga, Ontario
With 8 members of faculty (tenured, sessional, and dean included) the student body of the department of English and Drama at UTM was represented solely by myself. Candidates’ CVs from the U of T Mississauga and St. George campuses were reviewed and discussed with committee members. My in class experience with the candidates benefited the committee by highlighting individual candidates’ day to day behaviours and personalities along with the extent of their dedication to student and university affairs. Furthermore, the committee benefited from my presence because I represented a cultural minority within the group and raised concerns about diversity with regards to candidates in consideration for the position. Full confidentiality was maintained during the interim period, and successful results were delivered.
Research Assistant September 2005 - April 2006)
Department of English and Drama University of Toronto Mississauga and Toronto, Ontario
(Research Opportunity Program; Medieval Manuscripts and Middle English Literature)
Seminar classes were attended with the supervising professor at Thomas Fisher Rare Books Library and Robarts Library to understand and experience medieval book culture and to understand navigation between University of Toronto libraries. Online databases of Middle English texts were accessed to learn to read and understand medieval English and texts. With a strengthened background of Middle English a contemporary scholarly text on medieval narratives was summarized and reported to the supervising professor, which benefited her in writing a scholarly book on medieval romances. The Auchinleck Manuscript was accessed electronically from the National Library of Scotland and 12 of its medieval romances were translated and summarized into Modern English. These translations and summaries benefited the supervising professor’s graduate (MA) students at the University of Toronto as helpful summaries in their course. Sessional written research reports were delivered and the end result was granted a GPA of 4.0 on a 4.0 scale.
