I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and obtained Master level studies in Philosophy from Louisiana State University.
Since December, 2007, I have been working as Fulton County Juvenile Probation Officer. I admininster services to a caseload of 40 to 50 clients who, under the Restorative Justice model, not only benefit from and participate in an assortment of social services but also pay back their communities. I am the first bilingual Fulton County Juvenile Probation Officer.
From Dec 2005- Dec 2007, I was the Disaster Specialist for American Red Cross (ARC) in Atlanta, Ga.. General duties included supervising of Disaster Action Teams (120 volunteers), quality monitoring, data management, case management of affected clients to ensure appropriate relief assistance, and providing weekly and monthly statistical reports to the supervisor. I served as the liason to the fire department, as liason to Atlanta Fulton County Emergency Operations Center, as ARC Cultural Diversity Liason, and trained office volunteer staff (data entry and project assistance). I supervised Americorps placements. I was selected by national ARC as one of thirty Cultural Diversity Trainers nationwide.
From October, 1996 until April, 2005, I worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta as a Resource Specialist III. My last assignment was to coordinate services between St Joseph’s Hospital and various Residential Treatment facilities for individuals with Substance Abuse Disorders. I inspected sites for approval of collaborative action. I managed the budget monies allocated for placement of individuals with substance abuse disorders and ensured compliance of collaborative agreements. Other duties included the assessment of placement candidates as well as monitoring and implementing individual plan objectives. I provided monthly reports to my immediate supervisor. I was also a member of the Values Team of the organization whose objective is to maintain the core Values of the Hospital. I was a member of the HIPPA team. We prepared St. Josephs Mercy Care to be compliant with federal regulations around confidentiality protection.
During my tenure at St. Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta, I also developed and supervised the Positive Alternatives for Youth Program. The aim of the program was to provide Hispanic Youth at Risk with an after school program that provided health education, social skill training, academic assistance, counseling, mentoring and community relevant activities such as educational theatre. Since I am bilingual (English- Spanish) I also provided interpretation between parents and various agencies. I maintained and presented reports to the Dekalb County Community Board on the various goals of the program. Besides the work above, I have also been case manager for mentally ill and homeless clients. I am a certified Relapse Prevention Specialist.
From October 1995 to March 1996, I worked at St. Jude’s Recovery Center as Employment Services Coordinator. Relevant tasks included preparing consumers of diverse occupational backgrounds for re-entry into the workplace. I also conducted psycho educational groups on substance abuse and developed individualized service treatment for the consumers. I also reported on financial records to comply with HUD standards.
From October 1989 to August 1995, I worked for the Fulton County Health Department in a variety of capacities at the Fulton County Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center (FCADTC). I was Outpatient Services Coordinator for Fulton County Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center. I oversaw the daily operation of Outpatient Services. This included staff supervision and evaluation, program development and implementation, and Quality Assurance. I was also Coordinator for the Young Men’s Program at FCADTC. My responsibilities included staff supervision and evaluation; Quality Assurance; reporting to federal agencies such as C.S.A.T., N.T.I.E.S. I started out as Substance Abuse Counselor. My duties were ongoing case management of adult males with substance abuse disorders: interview, evaluate and implement individualized treatment packages; conduct psycho educational groups; document consumer’s progress; interface with all appropriate service referrals.
I lived in Virginia from 1987 to 1989 where I worked for Virginia Corrections Department as case manager. I routinely interfaced with community agencies and courts to implement case management goals.
I am bilingual. I work excellently with groups of people from diverse backgrounds and professional fields.
