Work Experience
May 2007 – Present: Liability Claims Technician, Brit Team, Cunningham Lindsey
Situated in the desktop team of the Brit department where Brit Insurance had outsourced their liability insurance claims work to Cunningham Lindsey. This involved handling a large caseload and triaging new claims. Investigations were carried out in light of liability and cases were dealt with accordingly. A range of public and employer’s liability cases were dealt with pre issue including property damage and product liability. Injury Cases were also dealt with before and during litigation.
Nov 2007 – May 2008: Paralegal, Burroughs Day Solicitors, Bristol
Working in the Initial Contact Team for the Injury Claims Departments. This involved taking detailed instructions from clients and vetting their claims. This was carried out over the phone and face-to-face. This also involved answering any questions that clients would have about the claims process and funding arrangements.
I assisted the RTA cases, obtaining medical notes and securing medical appointments, drafting witness statements, Court proceedings, valuing claims and negotiating settlement.
Aug 2004 – Aug 2007: Ate & Bte Claims Handler, Allianz Legal Protection
Vetted claims for prospects of success, liaised with clients, solicitors and barristers. Ensuring compliance by all parties with policy wordings. General claim maintenance, administration and customer care. At times I had to advise clients based on personal knowledge and expertise.
Oct 2006 : Mini- pupillage, Assize Court Chambers, Bristol
Shadowed a criminal barrister preparing for, and attending trial. Gained insight into the work of the Magistrates, Crown and Youth Courts.
Learnt the difference between Counsel’s advice on criminal matters compared to the civil ones drafted on the BVC. I observed advocacy in practice away from the classroom and the implementation of special measures in the Youth Court.
Volunteer Experience
1999 – to date: The Mendips Residential Care Home, Bristol
Assisted in the running of the home helping with physically and mentally challenged residents.
Duties ranged from domestic chores to administration and compliance. This has also broadened my skills and working knowledge in the field of mental health.
