We seek creative, dynamic and energetic men and women from 18 to 35 years old. Applicants should be native English speakers, preferably of North American origin. We also prefer that our counselors have previous camp counseling experience. They should be capable of teaching English to non-native speakers. This said, a TEFL certification is not a requirement. In general, Language Counselors are hired for two to three month periods, and our season extends from late March until the end of August.

Since English is the official language at our camps, knowledge of French is NOT necessary.
American Village operates ten different sites throughout France. Our sites are located in small, quiet villages situated in the countryside, in the mountains or by the sea.
Salary for first-year Language Counselors:
• Spring sessions: 700 euros/month (before taxes), plus 10% monthly bonus for paid vacation.
• Summer sessions: 800 euros/month, plus 10% monthly bonus for paid vacation.
Benefits include:
• Temporary work visa for North American citizens (USA and Canada) and citizens of Australia and New Zealand.
• Full room and board.
• Accident/Liability insurance.
• Two free nights at a hotel situated in the center of Paris (one night before your start day, and one night at the end of your contract.
NB: Please note that we are unable to offer financial assistance for plane or train tickets. However, we will provide as much information at possible to assist counselors with their travel arrangements to France and their designated site.

The ideal American Village candidate should:
• be a native English-speaker of North American origin or a native English-speaker who has an interest in or knowledge of North American culture, customs and language.
• have experience as a camp counselor.
• be capable of teaching English to non-native speakers.
• be outgoing, energetic and creative.
• be hard-working, organized and prepared to work long days with children.
• be enthusiastic about teaching songs, organizing arts and crafts activities, participating in skits and playing sports.
Musicians are very welcome.
