Welding Inspection Specialist
The Welding Inspection Specialist reports to the Lead Construction Engineer and performs the following duties:
1. Witnesses welder performance tests, oversees assignment of welder's symbol stamps, and observes welding training programs ( when required ).
2. Inspects field welds to ensure compliance with specifications for level of quality required, maintains surveillance over contractor welding.
3. Monitors radiographic inspection and interprets films; requests other destructive or nondestructive testing, as required.
4. Inspects all welding and fabrication within the scope of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, coordinates code inspection and assists in preparation of data reports. Reports to the appropriate supervisor in matters of code work and documentation.
5. Assists in the preparation and execution of postweld heat treatments.
6. Performs surveillance over contractor welding machines and apparatus at frequent intervals to ensure that mechanical deficiencies do not cause weld quality problems; maintains surveillance of care, storage, and identification of welding electrodes, wire, gases, etc.
7. Maintains copies of reports with respect to welders and their assigned symbols, welds completed, radiographic inspection, and weld repairs.
8. Witnesses Brinnel harness tests, as required, as a continuing feature of weld and postweld heat-treating determinations.
