Our client is a privately held, family owned and operated company. They are a major grower, packer, distributor, and exporter supplying the retail, food service, canning and frozen food manufacturing industries nationally and internationally. The company has experienced tremendous growth and now occupies six production facilities throughout the United States.
They seek a Director of Procurement which responsibilities include the development & execution of sourcing strategies that deliver competitive edge supplier performance in quality, delivery, productivity & service. You will lead activities to identify new product development opportunities in support of marketing and business strategy. Identify global market trends; facilitate product planning process and lead the application of design language. Promote innovation in the areas of line extensions, new product/platforms and breakthrough products. Lead market research, product design and consumer research.
Essential Functions/Duties:
1. Manage the procurement and flow of all raw materials for all facilities
2. Supervise all raw materials/bulk commodities procurement personnel in buying office
3. Manage grower/producer programs
4. Communicate with upper management regarding positions and market conditions
5. Assist senior management with any special projects and perform additional duties that may be assigned
6. Manage 9 employees working in the Procurement Department.
7. Negotiate pricing and payment terms with vendors.
8. Review inventory levels for all of our plant locations including off-sites.
9. Issue and print purchase orders.
10. Fax and/or e-mail purchase orders to our suppliers with confirmations that are acknowledged by our suppliers.
11. Distribute all acknowledged purchase orders to our Receiving Department for receiving.
12. Adjust purchase due dates by reviewing low on film, box and bag reports submitted by the Packaging Warehouseman.
13. Follow up with our suppliers to ensure that all purchases are received on the required due dates to avoid
Packaging shortages.
14. Attend daily production meetings.
15. Make sure that all receiving paper work gets processed through our Inventory Control Department and Accounts Payable Department.
16. Prepare and reconcile month-end inventories.
17. Using these guidelines for inventory level purchasing in placed i.E. (Film – Min. 10 weeks – MAX. 18 weeks, Boxes – Min. 2 weeks – MAX. 4 weeks, Bags – Min. 4 weeks – MAX. 8 weeks, Labels – Min 6 weeks MAX 12 weeks and Production Supplies – Min. 6 weeks – MAX. 12 weeks)

Knowledge, Skill and Experience:
Minimum Education required: BA/BS degree minimum. MBA preferred.
Experience Required: 3-5 years experience with food and/or related material procurement, manufacturing and food consumer product industries.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of material planning and scheduling, negotiate and administer long term contracts.
Essential skills and experience with contract writing, communication and organization skills, detailed oriented, strong leadership and self-motivated.
Demonstrate ability to successfully interact with all organization level and employees, proficiency in the use of English language in reading, writing, and speaking. Spanish is a plus.
Capable of handling an active schedule.
C.P.M. CPIM- Certification Preferred
Responsibility and Authority:
Establish good vendor relationship for better terms and any other purchase opportunities.
Avoid out of bulk situations at all plants
Cooperation with all team members in the supply chain flow process
Product purchases cannot be made for more than 10,000 cwts. of any commodity without Company Officers approval
Purchases cannot be more than a 30-day supply without Company Officers approval
Cannot move any products by truck that are originally moved by rail
Utilize the most cost effective way when moving bulk product
Does not have authorization to sign or engage the company in any agreements and/or contracts without approval of a Company Officer(s)
May not pay more than $.50/cwt. of original cost of product on open market as an alternative in order to fulfill a shortage at a facility.
