Job Title Structural Design Engineer Office
Department Civil and Structural Engineering Grade: D
Reports to Senior Structural Engineer
Job purpose
Assist senior engineers in the design of structures.
Duties - include but are not limited to ¡K
„x Obtain the project structural design criteria from the senior structural engineer.
„X Prepare structural analysis models using software, and hand analysis methods.
„X Design structural elements, based on the output from analysis models, using British and/ or American design codes and standards.
„X Prepare neatly and carefully annotated and indexed calculation books for the structural design.
„X Assist in production of specifications, reports, and other documentation relevant to the department output.
„X Comply with the requirements of the structural department QA/QC procedures.
„X Ensure that the analysis and design complies with requirements of strength, stability, durability and serviceability.
„X Communicate design requirements to auto CAD technicians, which will allow them to prepare drawings which give clear and unambiguous information to the contractor to allow the structure to be built.
„X Carry out research on various topics related to civil/structural design, and present the results clearly and in such a way that the research can be utilised by other engineers within the department.
„X Prepare design/analysis spreadsheets.
„X Coordinate with other departments to ensure that the structure fulfills all functional requirements.
„X Assist HOD and senior engineers in all aspects of the work of the civil/structural department.
„X Ensure ongoing professional development through on the job training, attendance at seminars, personal study, etc.
Supervisory Responsibilities

AutoCAD technicians. Number varies, depending on department and project requirements.
Physical Demands of the job Mainly sedentary, but site visits require walking, climbing, driving.
Minimum Qualifications B.Sc. Or B.Eng.
Preferred Qualifications M.Sc. Or M.Eng.
Registration required KSE (preferred.)
