Position: Multi-Media/Experience Designer – Assistant/Associate Professor
Department: Graphic Design
Description:
This full-time position is located in the Department of Graphic Design within the College of Art and Design. The department has over 140 majors and offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design degree with an objective of direct entry to the profession upon graduation.
We are seeking a full-time faculty member who will be an inspirational teacher, role model and mentor, and who compliments the strengths of the existing faculty in scholarship, teaching, and service in order to engage in an instructionally intensive undergraduate program in Graphic Design. The department wishes to reinforce our commitment to enhancing diversity, recognizing that to provide a diverse learning environment is the most effective means of preparing students for personal and professional success in an increasingly global and multi-cultural society.
The candidate would be expected to take a leadership role in the development of digital technologies, pedagogy, and emerging communication venues, both within the department and the college. Potential assignments might include web development and design, motion graphics, user interface design, digital narratives, interaction and information architecture. In addition, this appointment would include student advising. A commitment to inter-disciplinary education is strongly recommended. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Required:
Applicants should have a master’s degree in Graphic Design, Multi-media, or Computer Science and/or extensive professional experience. A creative work and research record should demonstrate a passion for design. The successful candidate should have fluency in typography, as well as visual and conceptual strategies. Teaching experience is preferred, but not required; however, the ability to teach and manage courses effectively will be required.
