More About Materials And Lesson Pacing...
We use the American Language Course (ALC) of the Defense Language Institute (DLI), which is headquartered at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas , USA . Each of our courses corresponds to an ALC "Book." Overall, these Books focus on learning and using general English vocabulary, grammar, language functions, and language skills, with just a hint of military referencing in order to speak to the target audience (some Books have more than just a hint of "military" referencing, and others have no hint of it, whatsoever). There are just over thirty "Books" (or Levels) all told, and each Book has four Teaching Lessons and one Review Lesson. Books also contain homework pages, appendices A through F, or sometimes up to J (highlighting vocabulary, grammar, etc.,), and numerous Evaluation Exercises; indeed, Books are very self-contained little buggers. To supplement the afore-mentioned ALC Course Books; Language Lab Activities Manuals and associated audiocassette tapes; videocassette tapes; and interactive, multimedia software, we have - and continue to create - additional materials in varied formats, namely: visual aids, such as flash cards and laminated poster boards with grammar points and/or vocabulary; transparency master sheets for use with our overhead projectors; Lesson Plan samples and suggestions; etc al. We have two LCD projectors - one in the Library, and the other installable inside a large room that we use primarily for Library sessions but also as classroom space from time to time
