Newspaper Layout Artist - Internship
This internship position opens December 28, 2009. There is a 6 month commitment.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to live and work within the close-knit community of Molokai, “The Most Hawaiian Island.” The work you will do will directly impact the lives of the people around you. We have an opening for a Layout Artist – this position is unpaid.
Job Description: The main tasks for this position are laying out the paper and preparing ads in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator. Other tasks include business card design, passport photography, and various office duties.
You will also be expected to make content decisions that enhance the readability of the newspaper. By visually presenting information and ideas, you will aid readers in comprehending stories. Applicants must also be clear communicators – in graphic arts, and as part of greater working team. For most tasks, you will need a strong sense of visual harmony. Applicants who have a communications background or experience in journalism will also be given preference.
Compensation: • Real-world experience and your work in print every week. • Furnished room in a house with local phone and high-speed internet access • Access to a car (stick shift) • $40 per week stipend • Flexible time off within your internship
You must arrange to purchase your own transportation to and from Molokai.
