Introduction
BADIR is a program of technology business incubators being established by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). BADIR-Saudi BioBusiness Centre (SBBC) based in Riyadh is the first National Biotechnology incubator in Saudi Arabia. Its mission is to stimulate economic growth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through entrepreneurship, enterprise development, and technology commercialization in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors. The SBBC achieves this mission through the provision of mentoring, networking, training, business development services, physical and technological infrastructure (including fully serviced laboratories and technical support), and access to finance.
KACST has engaged the services of Oxford Innovation for the establishment and management of the incubator for an initial two year period. Oxford Innovation has provided an international expert as the initial resident Executive Director for the Incubator supported by an international consulting team based in the UK that visit Riyadh on a regular basis. They and the Chief Executive will build the capacity of a local management team, with the expectation that the local management will take over running the incubator in 2 to 3 years time. The Laboratory Manager reports to the Executive Director and is located in Riyadh. As required, training and capacity building assistance will be provided.
Duties
As a part of the incubator’s management staff the Laboratory Manager will be working for the Chief Executive, Executive Director, and support the visiting Oxford Innovation consulting team members and tenants of the incubator. The Laboratory Manager may be called upon to support other members of the Management Team including the following duties:
• To manage the daily running of the Laboratory facilities, maintaining:
o an environment conducive to good health and safety, and laboratory procedure, practices;
o equipment and facilities in good working order;
o service contracts on equipment and organizing repairs as required
• To maintain good relationships with private and public sector supporters of the Incubator
• To maintain good relationships with private sector users of the Incubator and its Laboratories
• To help seek further users of the facility
• With other members of the Incubator Team, seek to offer support to the users of the facility and network members
• Supervise and support Laboratory Technician staff.
• Promote the Incubator’s services.
• Assist with projects for client companies in the Incubator as appropriate
• Carry out lab-based work for and with client companies
• Source and procure laboratory equipment, consumables and services
• Negotiate service contracts with equipment manufacturers and suppliers
• Have the ability to undertake first-line maintenance of equipment, including replacement of items such as bulbs and filters and second-line maintenance after manufacturer training, or with remote assistance by manufacturer
• Liaise as necessary on operational matters with the Executive Director

SBBC Executive Director.
Conditions of Employment
Salary: Negotiable. Paid monthly in arrears
Performance Bonus: 5% yearly paid on a quarterly basis (1.25% of yearly salary)
GOSI (Employer Pension Fund): at 9% of salary
Working Hours: 48 hours per week – 8.00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday to Wednesday plus 8:00 am to 12:00 Thursdays plus additional times as required.
Holidays: 4 weeks per year

Performance
Each year Personal Key Performance Indicators (PKPIs) will be developed in discussion with the Chief Executive and Executive Director. Quarterly PKPIs will be agreed that will ensure yearly PKPIs are met.
Each quarter the Executive Director will review PKPIs with the Laboratory Manager and discuss and agree any remedial action needed to improve performance and develop the next quarter’s PKPIs
A 1 to 5 performance rating against that quarter’s PKPIs will be made and for each point achieved, 20% of that quarter’s Performance Bonus will be paid.
