Some information about us…
The hotel is basically a dream come true for Ana, the Spanish owner and manager, who used to work in the world of finance, which kept her living abroad and traveling for years. After leaving this job in a search for a higher quality of life she traveled for 4 years looking for the perfect spot to build a bed and breakfast… finally she got to Lake Atitlan and has not left ever since!
The hotel is the first totally ecological hotel built in Lake Atitlan, the entire place since its construction has been conceived to protect the wonderful nature around and minimize the impact on the environment: whenever possible building materials found on site were used (sacks filled with earth, rock, stone, compressed earth, thatch) as well as recycled ¨waste¨– bottles, old doors, windows and fittings from demolished houses, recycled tiles…-. The water system was designed so that grey water can be recycled into the garden, septic tanks have an environmentally friendly design. The shower water is solar heated and the energy from the sauna is reused…
Once built we are following the same maxima when it comes to our functioning; we make compost for our garden with our organic waste, recycle the rest into building materials, use organic cleaning products –vinegar, sodium bicarbonate, salt…- refill water bottles, use solar heating, natural lighting, minimize our energy consumption, grow our own organic herbs, teas and some fruit and vegetables, cook everything from scratch to reduce packaging and harmful chemicals etc, etc…
Our goal is to turn this ecological orientation into something hip and stylish -a concept we like to call eco-chic - in an effort to end with the general assumption that ecological means brown rice and leather sandals. We try to reflect this in the whole concept of our business: the decoration of the place, the chill out music in our lounge, our gardens, yoga platform…
Our restaurant serves international cuisine jazzed up with modern concepts, our Danish head chef makes sure all of our food not only tastes delicious but it is also served with a different exquisite presentation. As for the ingredients, we use our own home grown vegetables and herbs –when in season-, making sure the rest of the produce that enters in our kitchen is locally grown, organic and of the best quality.
Our accommodation is composed by 8 independent cabins set on a hill, which ensures every single one of them has a breathtaking view of Lake Atitlan. All of them are decorated, again, in a simple but hip style, with locally made dry flower features and local woven materials designed personally by us. Each one of our bathrooms enjoys a natural feel, created by the bamboo they have been built with and the different tropical plants growing into their ceilings. Nature providing, one might be able to shower while a humming bird is feeding from a hanging orchid by your towel!
Our amenities include a Temascal Mayan sauna, Open air hot tub, Massage and Yoga platforms, and huge lush gardens to get lost in. It spreads all the way from the top of our hill to the waterfront, where we are building a beach bar –open by September 07-. We also have canoes for our guests to use and offer boat excursions, guided walks and shuttle transport to all the main tourist destinations in Guatemala.
Since we believe the energy of Lake Atitlan and its two volcanoes makes this area the perfect place for a ¨stress relieve¨ getaway we offer a medley or ¨relaxing¨ services such as different discipline massages –Swedish, Crania-sacral, Thai, Indian foot and head massage- acupuncture, reiki, facials and other beauty treatments, as well as private yoga lessons. By appointment we can also put together different activity workshops for groups that include Ashtanga or Iyengar yoga, different meditation disciplines, Thai chi, Xicong, writing, ancient mayan weaving and pottery.
