Job Summary:
Responsible for the assessment, development, provision, and evaluation of nursing orientation, education and ongoing in-service programs for nursing personnel in assigned area(s) and for ensuring that they support the direction and development of the Nursing Department and the quality of nursing care and services provided to patients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Participates in the process for establishing the nursing standards to ensure that education programs are developed in accordance with the overall direction in Nursing, service delivery, and new technologies.
• Utilizes adult learning principles, expected outcomes, and a range of recognized education methods to deliver a quality ongoing nursing education service.
• Identifies individual and collective learning needs of Nursing personnel through recognized assessment methods, outcomes of quality assurance programs, changes in clinical programs, new technologies, revised standards, and new protocols.
• Develops a competency-based orientation program for nurses new to a specific assigned area as well as those program common to all new Nursing employees for approval.
• Conducts Nursing education and training programs.
• Assists with probationary assessment of new staff as well as those who attend designated, mandatory in-services and initiates remedial assistance where needed.
• Assesses and revises programs based upon changes in the service delivery, new information, and clinical feedback.
• Develops, and maintains instructional and reference materials and recommends purchase of new and updated items.
• Acts as a practice expert in recommending and encouraging changes to nursing practice within assigned area.
• Develops and maintains quality assurance program for assigned education services that include an evaluation, recording and reporting system for education programs and recognition of staff achievements.
• Sets objectives for each area of responsibility along with a semi-annual teaching schedule that is consistent with the philosophical, fiscal, and operational plan of the Nursing Department.
• Responds to request for individual or group teaching assistance on specific remedial topics as requested by the nurse, Manager, Director, Director Nursing.
• Acts as a good role model for nursing practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, use of systems, and communication lines.
• Keeps Director apprised in a timely manner as to program development, results achieved as well as issues and concerns.
• Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job, as assigned by the immediate supervisor. |
| Kenntnisse erforderlich: |
• US/UK/Australian Qualified. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and holds a current Nursing license in good standing.
• Minimum Bachelors degree with specialised advanced education or equivalent. UK staff must have a 6 month post-graduate program in teaching and assessment. Masters degree in nursing or related from an accredited institution of higher education preferred. (note: in exceptional circumstances, equivalent experience and demonstrated abilities may be considered)
• A minimum of 10 years progressive post-graduate experience; 2 of which have been as an instructor/tutor/ educator or CN involved with that involved program development, implementation, assessment and revision. May include education program.
• A minimum of 2 years clinical experience in the assigned specialty (as part of the 12 years total experience)
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Proficient in writing educational materials, use of computer program (Microsoft office preferred) Experience with databases, presentation packages, and desktop publishing is an advantage.
• Successful experience in providing educational activities to individuals, small and large groups.
• Previous experience in a multi-cultural environment is desirable.
• Through knowledge adult learning principles and concepts of ‘from novice to expert’ as they apply to nursing.
• Demonstrated background in collaborative relationships with a wide range of personnel.
• Computer literate and a working knowledge of educational tools and techniques.
