Job Summary
Provides direct management and clinical supervision of the assigned division. Directs program development, standards of nursing practice, and resource utilization seeing that all are in keeping with the direction and development plans of the Nursing Department and related policies of the Hospital. Supervises and evaluates the day-to-day utilization of resources and achievement of standards targets in the division. Coordinates and facilitates the implementation of the PI and educational plan within assigned units/services. Provides continuity of services and mentorship to the Managers in their responses to day-to-day issues and unit operations. Works closely with members of the interdisciplinary teams to promote excellent patient care standards, satisfying customer service and a rewarding workplace. Communicates closely with the Deputy Director-Nursing Services on operational issues, resource dilemma, and improvement actions. Works with the Director General-Nursing Services on implementing strategic objectives keeping her advised of progress and developments. Contributes to the development of the Department as an integrated whole.
Duties And Responsibilities:
• Oversees the functioning of Managers/Managers, Charge nurses and liaises with the educators to direct division’s nursing staff in the performance of their duties and adherence to appropriate standards of practice.
• Serves as the primary channel through which timely communication on daily issues is channeled to and from the DDNS.
• Develops and recommends to the Director, annual objectives for the portfolio taking action on and reporting the progress and outcomes of those which are approved.
• Co-ordinates Division’s resources in accordance with hospital policy and Nursing internal procedure, collaborating with the Deputy Director- Nursing (DDNS) for development of the annual Department plan for Nursing Admin. Committee and DGNS agreement.
• Directs the assignment/reassignment of nurses to various units within the portfolio, advising the DDNS. Discusses intra-divisional reassignment with the DDNS before processing it for approval for the Director General.
• Monitors compliance with the performance appraisal process guiding and developing Managers in the process, reviewing problems early to develop staff’s professional standards.
• Provides the co-ordination with the Managers and educators for ongoing development of nursing personnel working the DDNS when significant changes re needed..
• Investigates complaints regarding nursing care or actions, involving appropriate others as needed, keeping the DDNS and, if needed, the DGNS thoroughly briefed and takes appropriate action in keeping with hospital Personnel policies and Nursing practice standards
• Coordinates the regular review and revision of DP for the assigned portfolio, incorporating best practice and/or evidenced-based changes, coordinating with others as needed after verifying the appropriateness of the direction with the DDNS or Nursing Standards/Nursing Administration committee. Develops new nursing policies or procedures processing them through NAC for approval and implementing those approved.
• Collaborates with appropriate Medical staff and others for the ongoing development of divisional services, consulting with the DDNS and DGNS through which recommendations are routed for approval.
• Facilitates PI initiatives with Managers & staff within the division; liaises on choice of projects with the DDNS and reports progress through the Nursing Administration Committee (NAC) and its PI subcommittee.
• Implements and modifies, to adjust for services or protocol change, a documented, competency-based orientation program as per guidelines and principles approved for the Nursing Department.
• Participates on task forces or committees as appointed by the Dgns.
• Assists the DGNS in formulating the Departmental Manpower Plan, Budgets and Operating Plan proposals, staff promotion a recruitment decisions, by regularly assessing and co-coordinating a review of the division’s needs.
• Completes an impact analysis for changes that affect the Division and makes recommendations to the Director.
• Implements, monitors, and adjusts methods of interacting with and utilizing information services to promote cost effective utilization of resources periodically reporting on variance and actions taken.
• Mentors new managers and senor charge nurses in adapting to the SSH operational methods and processes and participates in the staff development program.
• Provides of effective shift to Use the Apply Online Box below handover to supervisors on divisional issues, care issues or utilization problems and solutions.
• Performs other tasks and duties within the scope of the knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job, as assigned by the Director- General-Nursing Services. |
| Kenntnisse erforderlich: |
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Holds, on hire, a current Nursing license of good standing in country of origin.
• Minimum BScN; Master’s degree preferred.
• Eligibility for Saudi licensure is essential as is maintenance of same during tenure.
• Progressive management experience with demonstrated success with multi-unit management responsibilities and program development experiences in regional or tertiary care hospitals
• 8 years experience overseeing multiple unit services.
• For MOH purposes, there is no break in experience in the 2 years immediate pre-hire.
• Experience in both management and education preferred.
• For specialty areas clinical expertise preferred.
• Fluent in both written and spoken English.
• Computer literate and sound knowledge internet use.
• Evidence of being current in nursing affairs.
• Experience in multicultural environment is an asset.
• Experience with some form of hospital accreditation.
* Position requires the fitness required to respond to Codes throughout a large facility.
