Web Developer (Silver Spring, MD)
Position Description
The Office of Ocean Exploration (OE) with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (NOAA Research) is responsible for developing and maintaining a high-level Web offering called NOAA Ocean Explorer . The Web site is the primary outreach and education tool for many of the expeditions and projects funded and coordinated by the office, as well as many other smaller initiatives.
Looking for a web developer to work as part of a team responsible for the development, evolution, operation, and day-to-day maintenance of the NOAA Ocean Explorer Web site. Will perform a variety of writing, editorial, Web crafting, and multimedia tasks. Support includes:
• Designing assistance for complex Web sites.
• Converting text content to pdf and/or Web pages through Web editing software (Macromedia Dreamweaver).
• Processing large quantities of imagery for Web pages with image processing software (Adobe PhotoShop).
• Managing large bodies of scientific content.
• Working directly with external contributors to obtain content, review offerings, and ensure upload in a timely manner.
• Designing and building components of larger Web offerings.
• Develop simple to moderately complex database applications.
• Develop asp.Net Web interface applications.
• Support existing database applications.
Required Skills
At least two years technical experience developing Web offerings on natural resource, marine and/or ocean science topics (please provide work samples). Working experience with Microsoft Office suite, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, HTML, CSS, RSS and other common web languages. Experience with Macintosh a plus.
Education
BA/BS in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.
