Solution Configuration Manager
Job Description:
• The role of Solution Configuration Manager is to control the delivery Projects and Solution Management activities starting from the pre-analysis phase and continues until the end of the solutions lifecycle.
• The main guidelines for a Solution Configuration Manager are the Solution Configuration Management and Change Control in Projects. Solution Configuration Management is a part of PROPS-C as it is included in the Project Sales toolbox. The Solution Configuration Management process supports the evolution of solutions including Ericsson and non-Ericsson, customer adaptations, application and configuration as well as integration in Customer’s network.
• This role contributes with specific competence in the area of Solution Configuration Management. A Solution Configuration Manager ensures that solutions are handled in accordance with the Solution Configuration Management Process and Ericsson standards.
Responsibilities
• The Solution Configuration Manager is responsible for manage and enforce a Solution Configuration Management strategy during the solution’s lifecycle.
• The Solution Configuration Management is the skill of identifying, organising, and controlling changes to the items in an evolving solution in order to minimize confusion and prevent scope creep.
• The Solution Configuration Manager also involves maintaining traceability throughout the life cycle of the solution in order to ensure that requirements have been met in the "as designed" and "as built" configuration of the solution.
• The Solution Configuration Manager should also assist the Customer Project Manager in managing the customer relation with regards to Change control and see to that a valid change process is implemented and followed.
• The Solution Configuration Manager can have project staff members as support, but the Solution Configuration Manager has still the overall responsibility for the CM activities.
• The Solution Configuration Manager’s control the solutions delivered to the customer. The solution can consist of Ericsson and non-Ericsson software and hardware, licenses, documentation, processes and changes The main Solution Configuration Management activities in the process are to:
• Assist the Core 3
• Assist Solution Management
• Assist the Customer Project Manager with CM activities such as Change Control, deliveries etc.
• Recommend tools to be used by the project for Solution Configuration Management
• Enforce and communicate the Solution Configuration Management strategy in the projects (including partners and end-Customers) and the organization
• Support the project according to the decided Solution Configuration Management strategy, i.e. see to that the project follows the specified processes and procedures to attain project quality and control
• Manage and support the tools to support the processes put in place by the project configuration management plan
• Manage interfaces between project parts (sub-projects, sub-products, sub-contractors etc.) and ensure that the dependencies are clearly understood in the project
• Structure the solutions in a traceable and maintainable way
• Keep track of all configuration items
• Plan and member of the change control board
• Establish and participate in controlling changes to the solution, i.e. trouble reports, change requests and emergency corrections
• Establish and maintain baselines
• Handle 3PP Configuration Management
• Control the development and testing environment (if available)
• Manage and control the release and deployment of configuration items and baselines
Follow up and report the progress in the projects continuously along with the Project Managers
• Perform audits and reviews on projects, i.e. to confirm that project complies to the agreed Solution Configuration Management process and procedures
• Support the Project Manager in securing smooth hand-over to the support organization
• Continuously improve methods and way of working in the organization
• Plan and deploy a configuration management program according to "Solution Configuration Management"
• Provide mentorship in Solution Configuration Management.
• Actively participate in Knowledge Sharing and Solution Configuration Management networks
Requirements
• 8 + years experience with minimum of 4 years of Configuration Management experience.
• Good understanding of project process and requirements
• Should have domain knowledge of Configuration Management
• Effective communication & planning skills
