Executive Housekeeper - SHiPBOARD
Position Summary:
Directs all Housekeeping and Laundry functions for guest areas, officer cabins receiving service, corridors and lockers by performing the duties described below, both personally or through subordinate managers and supervisors.
Leads the Housekeeping and Laundry management to deliver exceptional guest service with a focus on continual improvement. Reports directly to the Hotel Director as a Division Head and a member of the senior management team.
Core Responsibilities:
Actively prepares and reviews yearly budgets for Housekeeping and Laundry and prepares financial operational business plan to enhance the overall business needs of the division.
Mentors, develops and provides both classroom-style and on-the-job training to team members in the spirit of continuous improvement and in preparation for succession planning.
Directs the overall Housekeeping and Laundry team function onboard the vessel. Manages a team of minimum 99 management and crew and 999+ guest staterooms.
Leads division in achieving and exceeding quantitative and qualitative goals and targets set for Housekeeping, Stateroom Accommodation ratings, Stateroom Attendant ratings, Housekeeping Operational Reviews, GOLD Anchor Quality Reviews, USPH inspections and Employee Satisfaction.
Responds to escalated guest concerns and partners with the Guest Services Manager to deliver exceptional guest service on every occasion.
Follows USPH procedures for sanitation and cleanliness and monitors workstations and staff for adherence to those procedures.
Confers with shipboard and shoreside management to plan product offerings to enhance the stateroom guest experience.
Manages the financial aspects and meets revenue targets of all Housekeeping revenue streams, including Laundry, Tuxedo, Mini-bar and Floral Cart. Analyzes operational problems such as wastage, theft and establishes controls. Partners with the Beverage Manager and the Marketing & Revenue Manager to develop and implement new promotions.
Partners with the Facilities Manager and Staff Captain to review the stateroom maintenance needs and ensures that appropriate plans are developed and adhered to, resulting in an improved guest stateroom product. Assesses the stateroom accommodation areas to promote and uphold the required standards of maintenance and refurbishment.
Maintains a high degree of “floor presence” to observe the Stateroom Attendant operations and to provide appropriate feedback and coaching to team members including stateroom inspections.
Oversees the Stateroom Attendant Performance Management system. Ensures that all appropriate information is used to determine Stateroom Attendant performance ratings. Disseminates appropriate information and section assignments accordingly. Ensures that poor performers as indicated by the system are placed back of house and complete the company training course. Utilizes the progressive disciplinary process as guided by the performance management guidelines. Provides positive recognition and feedback to top performers.
Maintains safe, secure and healthy environment by enforcing organizational standards, procedures and legal regulations. Effectively monitors, oversees and makes improvements to Workplace Safety within the division and throughout the ship. Attends mandatory crew and guest safety drills as required.

Hiring Requirements:
• Five to seven years housekeeping managerial experience in high volume (500 room+) , 4 or 5 star hotel, or cruise line preferred.
• Ability to assess situations logically and implement appropriate solutions.
• Extensive knowledge of cleaning procedures with regard to public health standards and proper cleaning techniques, requirements and use of equipment, including proper chemical handling.
• Extensive knowledge of linen pars and inventory control.
• Full understanding and knowledge of high volume laundry operation
• Ability to promote strong attention to details, with regards to cleanliness and presentation, in guest staterooms
• Ability to understand, interpret, drive and action ratings and revenue results and targets.
• Experience of supervising a minimum of a group of 70 employees.
• Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse team environment to meet overall established time frames for the entire Housekeeping and Laundry operations.
• Ability to communicate diplomatically with managers, department heads, coworkers, shipboard and shoreside employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
• Ability to utilize and administer the progressive disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment.
• Demonstrated aptitude for the financial aspects of a housekeeping operation, including the successful identification of expense reduction through cost control. Demonstrated aptitude for the management of headcount within assigned area, as it relates to and supports the business needs of the vessel.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing exceptional customer and personal service including needs assessment, problem resolution and achievement of quality service standards.
• Knowledge of policies and practices involved in the human resources function. Ability to manage the international staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing employees as they work.
• Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to navigate within a variety software packages such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred.
